by suggesting a non-american magazine that does in-depth reporting on matters of international significance that you might not hear about in the US media (not just the teevee newsies, but also the (relatively) heavyweight weeklies). sort of looking for The Atlantic crossed with Pacifica radio, only based elsewhere in this world.

unfortunately, I currently only speak the english. and i'm not interested in the Economist.

apologies for this question not being entirely in the realm of the "on-topic".

Speaking from an Australian perspective, I'd say 'Quadrant', 'Eureka' and 'Quarterly Essay'. I think you can find most of these on Amazon.

'Private Eye.' No question. While it is, in part, an 'Onion" style satirical journal, it also has a serious side, and prides itself on reporting the stories that no other newspaper or magazine is prepared to touch.

London Review of Books has a lot of politics & current affairs, which normally solicit letters of complaint from American readers (perceived anti-US & Israel bias)

Unfortunately, the only two I can think of immediately are US magazines. Foreign Policy out of DC (www.foreignpolicy.com) and World Press Review out of NYC (www.worldpress.org) -- they might be worth a look over...

i don't have a whole lot to add here (LRB is a great suggestion) but i'd take a look at the guardian online if you can. they get great writing from tariq ali and arhundhati roy, among others... maybe you should get a world-band radio, like my grandfather has. then you can listen to cuban and chinese state radio like him! (according to him their international reportage is very fair and informative, while their domestic reportage is obvious propaganda ... sort of the opposite of our best news agencies...)
