i know why there's some weird dns issues going on

Joker.com currently experiences massive distributed denial of service attacks against nameservers.
This affects DNS resolution of Joker.com itself, and also domains which make use of Joker.com nameservers.
We are very sorry for this issue, but we are working hard for a permanent solution.
Thank you for your understanding,

Your Team of Joker.com

Presumably. I honestly didn't notice any problem at all.

I couldn't log on 'till 1/2way thru the morning yesterday, & not 'till just after 3pm today.

ilx.p3r.net wasn't working for me, ilx.wh3rd.net worked like a charm.

It's really weird and provider-related, I guess. I tried three different routes in the last half hour: a broadband cable connection at home, broadband cable connection on a laptop to the proxy at work and a WAP cell phone. On one only wh3rd worked, on the second both work and on the cell phone neither worked. I've given up trying to understand what's going on.

Yea, sometimes you'll have one or the other in your upstream dns provider's cache

It's been the opposite for me at times.

If p3r.net or wh3rd.net works better at any particular time, it's all to do with your local DNS cache. In this particular case, where the Joker DNS servers were down, it's likely that whichever domain you the most will be cached by your closest DNS, and thus it will work better than the other.

All things being equal there should be no difference between the two.
