Spammer

I moderate a forum called Aeon Flux Top Level and we've been hit daily with a spammer, advertisements for ringtones and drugs mostly but occasional gibberish.

Is there any way to block these?

The only way to reliably do it at the moment is to set the board to registered posters only. You can do this by going to the new questions page, clicking on the "administer board" link, and setting it there. Let me know if you get stuck w/it, and I'll do it for you.

Pashmina, are you a moderator? I would appreciate your help if you are, I can't fig it out, been working on it an hour or so now. Just don't know how to do it.

I've gotten so many posts today on the Cafe Irreal column on my board and I work long hours, too tired to delete them all tonight. Whoever is doing this is a real jerk, sigh.

Thanks for any help.

Pashmina, thanks so much. I came home last night and saw the problem solved and was to tired to post, but what a relief.

But I'm stunned to find that such a simple answer to it, I wouldn't think they would not reply as a logged poster.

Why is that? What's the difference, because it can be traced?

We are having the same problem as Aeon Flux with 15 bits of spam appearing on the same thread in one day. I have warned regulars that we are changing to register-only but a lot of people are saying that they are having a hard tim receiving their login details.

two weeks pass...
I have't been able to get on the forums for two days, until I used Google Cache. Why is that? Is anyone else having this problem?
