any takers?

Remy (x Jeremy), Thursday, 11 November 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Andrew is the one who can add extra moderators to ILE. I'm not sure if we're taking on any more at the moment, anyhow. I'll leave it up to the man himself to answer dat.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 11 November 2004 03:07 (twenty-one years ago)

I think Jeremy would be a good mod, he seems pretty fair.

Leon the Fratboy (Ex Leon), Thursday, 11 November 2004 03:33 (twenty-one years ago)

but can we afford to have the court loaded with 3 bush justices?

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Thursday, 11 November 2004 03:34 (twenty-one years ago)

You're on my shortlist, Remy. I'm awaiting other volunteers and some opinions from other mods, admins and coders before making choices. We haven't decided how many new mods to appoint yet - I'm inclined towards increasing the numbers, but not by too much.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 11 November 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I volunteered on one of the threads Martin, but it may have got buried amid the avalanche of posts at the time.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 11 November 2004 13:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Obv. I'm out of the loop.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 11 November 2004 14:50 (twenty-one years ago)

My own fault though, been hellishly busy, only reading a few select threadz.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 11 November 2004 14:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I volunteered as well, and I'm willing to do it still. The only problem is that I don't necessarily check ILE during the evenings nor on Saturdays or Sundays, it depends. I'm not sure if that is a problem, if we'd have other mods who spend more time here on evenings/weekends. I'm most likely to be online from 10AM to 6PM/7PM (Finnish time, subtract two hours from that to get the British time).

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 11 November 2004 14:57 (twenty-one years ago)

tuomas would add that special finnish touch to closing calum threads

amateur!!st, Thursday, 11 November 2004 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Because of Martin's (temporary, I believe) departure from the mod staff, I'm going to appoint two or three more ILE mods in the next couple of days.

I won't be willing to discuss my eventual choices, because I want to avoid drama. Nobody who volunteered should feel hurt by not being picked, as I believe most regulars are more than capable of being a mod.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 11 November 2004 23:01 (twenty-one years ago)

i think you need a technically savvy mod FWIW. I would volunteer but I fear that I would be a "divider not a uniter"

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Friday, 12 November 2004 00:25 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought you already were one Jon, why'd I think that.

I'll support Jeremy and Tuomas as mods btw. I dont really see a need for really tech-savvy mods, just people with a level head and some sense, who arent going to get the shits/stupidity and pick on people or anything.

FWIW, this is the only board I've ever been on where there isn't a specific set of board rules and a large number of mods that enforce those rules. I know I've said this before and people have suggested other boards might have to be stricter due to say, underagers and the like, but I still think a clearer set of whats ok and whats not, and mods prepared to just straight out say "thats out of line, sorry" and act.

To me, that action first and foremost should be locking a thread, rather than deleting posts, deleting threads or banning posters. Why is locking (common on many other boards)not used that much here? Baffling, I think. Locks can be undone if needed, they dont delete posts that mightve been good in the thread, and they arrest stupidity in it's tracks.

Maybe this not the best thred to bring all that up but it came to mind.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 November 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

yea OTM re: locking

I'm only a mod on NOIZE BOARD.

Technically savvy mods are good at tracking down who offenders are, finding spyware links, etc.

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Friday, 12 November 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Jon, you'd be a candidate were it not for the hundreds of threads you image-spam, which I'm (usually) left to clean up. I wish you'd stop doing that.

If a thread is going out of control, I'll lock it. If somebody just posts a malicious thread and nobody's responded, I'll usually just delete it. The only time I ever delete individual posts is when somebody spams a whole lot of text/images.

Andrew (enneff), Friday, 12 November 2004 01:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah fair point that.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 12 November 2004 02:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Well yea, that's my point! I'm a dick!

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Friday, 12 November 2004 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

maybe TOMBOT?

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, I was asked to appoint replacements, but I'm obviously happy with your doing so, Andrew - the volunteers who spring to mind so far, besides the people on this thread, are Stevem, Teeny and PinkPanther. I have made proposals on the moderator discussion board.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:06 (twenty-one years ago)

fwiw i volunteered somewhere too.

mark p (Mark P), Friday, 12 November 2004 21:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah sorry Mark! There has been so much going on, and I am not surprised I've missed someone.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Friday, 12 November 2004 22:12 (twenty-one years ago)

(offer still stands in my case, fwiw)

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 13 November 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I volunteered too. I don't post from work, but am around a lot in the evenings and weekends.

ailsa (ailsa), Saturday, 13 November 2004 13:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Martin, if you want to take care of mod assignments then that's just fine by me. The three you've suggested sound just dandy to me, so if you'd like you can assign the relevant privileges etc.

Andrew (enneff), Monday, 15 November 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Great! I will sort that out.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Monday, 15 November 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)
