How much extra drain on the system would there be to allow users to search keywords or parts of titles that are 3 letters? I've run into this problem quite a few times where I know the title contains some 3-letter acronym and I cannot find the thread I'm looking for because I can't pull together any good keywords besides the acronym I'm looking for to find the specific thread. Would it be really bad on the server to change the minimum limit to 3 letters instead of 4?

I'm mainly just thinking there are a lot of 3 letter acronyms, names, etc that might occur to people first to look for and searching for more general terms that might've shown up on the thread is very slow going right now, maybe cos more recent stuff isn't indexing right.

also, generally speaking i guess the answer is: a lot

you could look at the pages of threads by month and do a "find" in your browser. each page by month has a link to the previous and next months

it didn't work for me just now to do it in the title, I swear. I'm not saying it's not possible and that something just fluked on me.

Searching for old threads that way is, honestly, not really worth the time, I'd kind of rather just start a new thread if I had to resort to month by month searches of threads I am unsure of their start date!! Oh well, I figured it'd be a bigger drain on the server.

Yes I thought that was the case but that wouldn't have affected what I was looking for. Oh well, I think it just blipped on me.
