Stumbled upon this today: PAReview.

I don't share the tastes of its critics (I loved Jin-Roh, Fritz The Cat and Wizards, and despised Only Yesterday and Tamala2010), but it seems fairly in-depth, well-written, and idiot-free... a rare quality among message boards. Go see!

This is an interesting spot on the net, but how and when did you ever end up seeing Fritz the cat? I've never seen it, I've only heard about it. I have a fair idea of the alleycat hero, though.

I rented (hired for you Brits and Aussies) the film on DVD, a couple of years ago. It's not hard to find.

Incidentally, now that I've read Crumb's comic, I have to say that I prefer the film adaptation in many respects... the film is black humor. The comic is just black.

three months pass...

Fritz the Cat was a character created by Robert Crumb, the Ralph Bakshi made an "adult" animated film from Crumb's characters. The movie is pretty cool (but pretty extreme too), but supposedly R Crumb hates it.

I rented Fritz the Cat awhile ago and couldn't get past the first five minutes. It sucked. Seemed like eye candy for closet prudes looking for shock value.

I dunno. Maybe I just didn't give it enough time. Also I usually figure if the original artist didn't like the adaptation, it doesn't work as an adaptation.

more art crap

Syra mentioned Varo in an old post, which was my introduction to her.
I guess it isn't surprising that the regulars here would share similar tastes in art.

I've definitely noticed a similarity in the style of writing I encounter in the personal emails I occasionally get via this site. It's startling how often they uncannily resemble my own tortured prose-- perhaps a sign of the struggle to distill a non-verbal, sense-oriented perspective into a string of words.

Coincidentally, I'm taking a more purely visual narrative approach to the new Aeon episode I'm developing. There will be dialogue, but nowhere near the level of the 1995 series. The ultimate format and outlet for the project is still undetermined, but I have a feeling this will be the definitive incarnation of Aeon Flux.
