I haven't heard the Colette mix. I suspect gygax likes it because it has CT4TPA on it. The Muzik mix is great, almost (ALMOST) flawless. there are more duds on Compilation #2, but it's longer so all is forgiven.

ALLMUSIC.COM (ddb), Thursday, 11 November 2004 21:57 (twenty-one years ago)

dance to the underground, hands down. the most dfa of the mixes, and the mixing is seemless. i love the colette mix for "static dancing" alone, but it's clumsy. and the third disc of the new comp is the one i've listened to the least, in part cuz i have heard so many dfa mixes by now

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 11 November 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

anything better than these?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:04 (twenty-one years ago)

nah, that dance to the underground mix is still my fave.

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I am listening to the DFA thing now (disc 3) and it's pretty fun.

ALLMUSIC.COM (ddb), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

dfa2

Spinning Down Alone You Spin Alive (ex machina), Thursday, 11 November 2004 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I have gotten kind of sick of DFA.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 November 2004 13:03 (twenty-one years ago)

The James Murphy track on the Felix Da Housecat album seriously seriously damaged my liking for them. It was almost self parody.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 12 November 2004 13:04 (twenty-one years ago)

capitol is putting out the lcd album!

Yanc3y (ystrickler), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm kinda with you on that one Ronan, only it damaged my regard for James Murphy vocals, not all of DFA. The mixes still kick ass. I'm still kind of excited about eclectic warrior (especially if he keeps that horrible title), but his yelping now sounds a little less sassy and a little more annoying.

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Friday, 12 November 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

which one is this again?

Freelance Hiveminder (blueski), Friday, 12 November 2004 17:11 (twenty-one years ago)

wouldn't you rather not know?

Felonious Drunk (Felcher), Friday, 12 November 2004 18:09 (twenty-one years ago)

What is James Murphy's Voicemail Messages like?

W i l l (common_person), Friday, 12 November 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

The Colette mix so absolutely kills the other other two.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 1 April 2005 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Really? It's great but it's definitely my least favorite of these three.

Poundstretcher (nordicskilla), Friday, 1 April 2005 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

actually no i take that back

Poundstretcher (nordicskilla), Friday, 1 April 2005 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the Muzik one least.

jed_ (jed), Friday, 1 April 2005 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

of course it's the worst, it has fucking radio four on it.

cutty (mcutt), Friday, 1 April 2005 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I do prefer the Colette one too, the way in and out of the Cabs track is butter . . .

Drew Daniel (Drew Daniel), Friday, 1 April 2005 04:04 (twenty-one years ago)

kill the dj part two, bitches.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 1 April 2005 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax! otm, truly.

lauren (laurenp), Friday, 1 April 2005 10:38 (twenty-one years ago)

i think i need some playgroup albums. i have a jockey slut comp that i still listen to cuz i really like that "make it happen" song. i should find the tracklisting for that comp, i don't know who most of the people are on it.

here it is:

jay alansky - un maximum de lumiere (i don't know who he is.)

magnet - dead happy

ralph myerz & the jack herren band - casino

tes - new new york (i like this one. they sample hot child in the city and other stuff)

playgroup - make it happen (exclusive dub version) (so it's a dub version that i like.)

rework - anyway i know you

lcd soundsystem - give it up

the rapture - i need your love

justin robertson presents revtone - everpresent (original mix)

putsch 79 - 1300

norken - static

i like a lot of the music on it. i never searched any of these people out though. but this thread reminded me of the playgroup thing. i will search them out. i think they have their records at my record store. we went to the record store to hear some dude from cul de sac play guitar last nite, but rufus was being too noisy so we had to leave.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 1 April 2005 13:38 (twenty-one years ago)

playgroup aren't very good.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 1 April 2005 14:34 (twenty-one years ago)

the playgroup album is good I think.

Ronan (Ronan), Friday, 1 April 2005 16:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Putsch 79 are fun. Tes (if it is the same Tes) has a decent Black Dice remix as well.

Airtube (nordicskilla), Friday, 1 April 2005 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

i have (or at least had) the playgroup album and i thot it mediocre, but hey, no sweat.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 1 April 2005 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

The Muzik mix is still my favorite.

01 Black Dice - Smiling Off (DFA Remix / Luomo Remix) (5:30)
02 LCD Soundsystem - Too Much Love (Rub N Tug Mix) (7:03)
03 The Juan Maclean - Give Me Every Little Thing (Eric B Dub) (4:48)
04 The Juan Maclean - Tito's Way (Reverso 68 Remix / LP Version / Booka Shade Remix) (7:42)
05 The Juan Maclean - Give Me Every Little Thing (Cajmere Remix / Xpress 2 Bonus Beats / Putsch 79 Remix) (4:00)
06 Black Dice - ABA (2:00)
07 Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom - #5 (3:34)
08 LCD Soundsystem - Tribulations (Tiga Remix) (7:52)
09 LCD Soundsystem - Daft Punk Is Playing At My House (Soulwax Shibuya Remix) (5:25)

also these. 1 = awesome, especially all the venom samples. 2 = less good but still ok. 3 is not so much of a "mix" but I roffled a lot when "my war" came on.

chocolate orgone accumulator (haitch), Sunday, 15 January 2006 13:45 (twenty years ago)

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 15 January 2006 14:58 (twenty years ago)

the Reverso 68 mix of "Tito's Way" is one of the best tunes of last year, so the holiday mix wins!

Ronan (Ronan), Sunday, 15 January 2006 16:15 (twenty years ago)

dan selzer in selling his cd again shockah! :)

Alex in Wonderland (jaxon), Sunday, 15 January 2006 19:41 (twenty years ago)

$3 for dan's mix!?

jed_ (jed), Sunday, 15 January 2006 19:54 (twenty years ago)

can you believe how cheap it is? Compared to like, 76 dollars for the James Murphy Colette mix, it's a steal! Actually, Colette was carrying our mix CD in their store, so we're honored.

And I can't believe nobody's actually given me shit for mentioning my mix CD on every single thread that discusses mixes, CDs, or mix CDs!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 15 January 2006 20:56 (twenty years ago)

how much money do you make per copy sold?

also, it seems like a good mix and you seem like a reputable source

Alex in Wonderland (jaxon), Sunday, 15 January 2006 21:25 (twenty years ago)

no money made. I don't know if the label made any money either. It was all done for good will, you know? It's not a cd-r, it's a properly mastered and pressed CD, with 4/c art, in a cool plastic sleeve with a sticker hand-stuck to it.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Sunday, 15 January 2006 21:30 (twenty years ago)

ysi plz

I bought Dan's mix and it is good. I am a neutral party!

adamrl (nordicskilla), Sunday, 15 January 2006 23:40 (twenty years ago)

colette #5 vs fabriclive 36?

fela cooties (haitch), Wednesday, 19 November 2008 00:05 (seventeen years ago)

wish i could get that 'red cones' track, only place it shows up is on that colette mix.

fela cooties (haitch), Wednesday, 19 November 2008 00:05 (seventeen years ago)

you should talk to stirmonster, he has the inside track there (and yes, that track is amazing).
