YAY TO ONE ... BUT WHICH ONE

($10) Saturday January 22nd:

The Fucking Champs
Minibosses
Night After Night

($5, BYOB) Monday January 24th:

The Fucking Champs (SF)
Upsilon Acrux
Bad Dudes (ex-members of Miracle Chosuke)
Goliath Bird Eater (members of Wives and Polar Goldie Cats)

yes (deangulberry), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:23 (twenty-one years ago)

($5, BYOB)!!

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:34 (twenty-one years ago)

ddb otm. upsilon acrux i like. no offense to minibosses who rock pretty good tho.
m.

msp (msp), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's a tough call. I can walk to the $10 show, so I can afford to get 200% drunk. Also, I want to see the Minibosses. I was unimpressed by Upsilon Acrux. Is their live show MUCH better than the recorded material?

yes (deangulberry), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:49 (twenty-one years ago)

the minibosses are like midgets or something? right?....truth be told, the champs suck and are way boring live.

death to ironic metal.

but $5 and some beers = fun

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

are they ironic? well, i suppose they might not be ironic, but it seems like a crapload of their fans are.

i didn't realize minibosses were metal. i just thought it was video game rock.

msp (msp), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:00 (twenty-one years ago)

"i didn't realize minibosses were midgets." that's what i meant to say.

The Advantage is better than The Minibosses.

back to Thor (Thor), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 21:01 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, and oh yeah, i never seen acrux live... so maybe they = junk.

?

the advantage is treatful. i like how they use some super mario and bubble bobble music. minibosses has chosen more aggro games. (not that advantage didn't either.)

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:06 (twenty-one years ago)

gygax dood...you rule and everything, but c'mon dood, the champs are a fucking joke. and the last time i saw them (in all fairness 3 or 4 years ago) they just fucking stood there looking bored (read: poseuring) and fucking sucking.

I can play you 10 records that will annihlate the fucking champs.

lets let SF PRIDE thing take a breather. They are stupid FAKE/IRONIC METAL for the indy rock set. See the dudes throwing "HORNS" at their shows...they are fags.

ddb (ddb), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

hahahah

world's best grandpa (deangulberry), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

"SF PRIDE" HAH!!! Now THAT is a joke. I like I think 5 local bands... maybe?

The fucking c4am95 (originally from SANTA CRUZ, CA about 1.5 hours from SF) are a great rock band (note: not metal/indie/prog or what have you), they put on a great show (i've seen them 4 times). Yes, their fans probably suck (you can say the same about most bands' fans) but no reason to hold it against them.

okay? Okay? OKAY?!?!?!?!?!?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

discriminating metal fans? what is this world coming to?!

Ian John50n (orion), Tuesday, 18 January 2005 22:53 (twenty-one years ago)

4. Are you racists?

If a racist means to recognize the difference between people who have
differentiated appearance and cultural thought process, then we are
racists. Peoples develop differently for a reason, and their values
are not always compatible. That's the "diversity" educated
open-minded people keep talking about.

Our beliefs does not necessarily mean we are "judging" or "hating."

Judging requires a value system, and we hate polar value systems.
There is only what is. Judeo-Christianity is vengeance, punitivism,
sado-masochism, whorishness, fetishism, cruelty, sloth, intoxication
and other vices of the weak material minds.

If certain thing is a threat to our people's existence, and we see it
occur again and again, we must strike at this to preserve beauty and
adventure. War against the ugly, conniving, mendacious and greedy!
Death to that which threatens freedom for the free!

If racists means we think each culture should stand alone, and be
proud to be what it is, then we're racists. HEIL HITLER

OLIVEGARDEN WONT BE TEH SAME WITHOUT YOU.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 00:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I kinda like the Champs, but not to the extent that I want to listen to their albums.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

ummm, so you dont like them then.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

No, dude. Did I not say that I kinda like them? I just didn't think that the ones I had (that first double album full-length and a more recent one) were that great as albums. If they could come up with a compelling sequence of tracks, it's conceivable that they could make a good album (not that I've heard all of theirs). Otherwise, they should just put out 10" EPs instead.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:30 (twenty-one years ago)

their first record (c4am95 III) is far and away their best record... HOWEVER, i have yet to hear the greatest hits that matador released in Europe which struck me as oddly compelling.... (ie, "hmmmm...")

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

A whole double album of them, though? I can picture them putting out shorter records like a 10" with a good grouping of tracks. You know, choose your best songs and don't just put out a whole bunch of stuff! Those would be awesome records. The same goes for lots of indie bands.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't care if they are ironic, their wantage 7" destroys.

it can be pooped on by comic puppet dogs and still rule.

msp (msp), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 03:11 (twenty-one years ago)

yo, if you are asking for less music from a band,

YOU. DONT. LIKE. THEM.

DIG?

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 03:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I actually didn't say that I liked them, but rather that I "kinda" liked them.

Dig?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

kinda

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

uh oh...i got thursday off....do i come meet nyc
noise dudes????

brock (brock), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 05:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Gygax!, a greatest hits album from them might be cool. Speaking of '90s Santa Cruz bands, did you ever see the Candy Apples? They played in SD twice, probably, while you were living here, once at the old Casbah opening for Royal Trux (on the tour they did after that self-titled third album) and once opening for Drive Live Jehu at some building in Banker's Hill or somewhere. This would have been like '93 or so. They put out a tape and a single and they're as good as the early Pavement records.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 19 January 2005 06:04 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah... i'm thinking it's no goblin either. (not that tim green hasn't released some goblin tunage on the charm soundtrack.)

Fucking Champs and Minibosses were great. DDB 110% OTM about the ironic devil horns. But still, I'd take people who excited about the music over douchey hipsters any day!
