So I took a moment out from listening to the grime and the microhouse and the EUROPEAN DANCE MUSIC to listen to PULP and they were GOOD.

Come on noise dudes, you can confess your britpop sins here, it's all been approved!

All new gygax:"I break down in heartfelt emotional tears every time I hear Echobelly" answers!

I like "Sunrise"

That's the spirit! Thanks for sharing, Jon!

Once I, adam, joined the SUEDE (blech) fanclub and even ended up appearing in a Suede video...because I wanted to be "good friends" with a young lady...

your turn.

HELP THE MOTHERFUCKIN AGED

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

MY LEGENDARY GIRLFRIEND:
Wire Magazine once said I was a Jarvis look-alike. I too had to date a young lady to find out what that meant. "Good Times"

Snappy (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Young ladies are good!

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i like young ladies

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooooh, I love it when you're all IRONIC!

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I have never heard PULP!!!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

did you listen to "hyper ballad" yet?

Reviewer: Sir Potomus (Washington, DC) - See all my reviews (ex machina), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Pulp. I own many albums and singles.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

that does not come as a surprise.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I know veritably nothing about britpop proper. as for early 90s british music of the same vein, I enjoyed:

The Weddoes (aka "The Wedding Present")
The Fall
My Bloody Valentine
Swervedriver
The Vaselines
The Pastels

I heard a few songs by elastica back in the day (one sounded like wire and one sounded like the stranglers), i had a coworker who played that popular (in the US) oasis album incessantly. that radiohead song "creep" (one of the few songs i've ever heard from them) was probably the worst song i'd heard in my life at the time. i know very little of british shoegaze as well (ride, curve, lush)...

who did that song "kinky love"? i dated a young lady who had *ahem* a certain affection for that band/album.

I have not heard any more Bjork but I love that video!!! She looks like my Mom did when she was her age.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

BJORK IS NOT BRITPOP

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

i was answering JW's question, do keep up.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

just a bit of fun

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:10 (twenty-one years ago)

kinky love was pale saints

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:17 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, she was one of those US girls that was all about 4AD, slightly gothy as well*... this would have been circa 91-92.

*I think you, Gareth, may be familiar with this stereotype?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

this is a touchy subject. i was a britp0p dj in a past life but i am fully reformed now.

mark p (Mark P), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:24 (twenty-one years ago)

It's ok, mark.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:29 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, she was one of those US girls that was all about 4AD, slightly gothy as well*...

Good thing she hasn't met the ILXer that we both know who has a 4AD sticker on his car.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

US goths used to be more hippie, now they are more rockabilly.

Snappy (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:36 (twenty-one years ago)

no, im not really that familiar with that stereotype...

kinky love was originally by...nancy sinatra?

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:39 (twenty-one years ago)

i dont think ive ever really met a goth, or even a gothy person

charltonlido (gareth), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:41 (twenty-one years ago)

LOCK / DELETE

mayahee, mayahoo, mayaha, mayahaha (deangulberry), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:44 (twenty-one years ago)

they're traditionally shy, maybe that's why

Snappy (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 17:46 (twenty-one years ago)

kinky love was originally by...nancy sinatra?

I was going to say! I think it would have been cooler if gygax! had dated a Nancy fan rather than a Pale Saints fan.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

she might have been! (she had the requisite Sassy collection which was de rigeur for the day)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

haha sigh

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

was this girl mentioned on the sleeping with coworkers thread?

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I dressed up as Jarvis Cocker for Halloween 1995. That was the only time I dressed up for Halloween in the past 20 years.

I am a big Pulp fan.

MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 18:38 (twenty-one years ago)

jarvis cocker used to be so hot.

Allyzay Highlights The Fallacy of Radiohead (allyzay), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 18:48 (twenty-one years ago)

was this girl mentioned on the sleeping with coworkers thread?

no! although i was a coworker with her friend, which is how we met. her friend (i now realize, 13 years later) i should have gone for instead... she was so unbelievably cool and i was so, so lame in comparison. ah, fair youth, hindsight blah.

there is a thread/post that i'm looking for (for Gareth's benefit) about my blond goth coworker who invited me to Bondage-A-Go-Go which was posted around October 2004 THAT I CANNOT SEEM TO FIND!!!

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 19:16 (twenty-one years ago)

It's on one of the SF threads.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

jarvis cocker used to be so hot.

Yeah, now he looks grandmotherly. Still cool though.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I like a few of the more popular songs though the albums tend to wear on me. Can't really get through any of those.

thank god i ain't too cool for the safe belt (smile), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

so wait, you've hooked up with how many girls who've had complete Sassy collections???

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 20:52 (twenty-one years ago)

hehe, i used to have a fetish... also: "bad" girls (esp. sag). :-\

Snappy (sexyDancer), Wednesday, 26 January 2005 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

about pulp, i just bought the Richard X album and there's that weird, but cool song near the end that has Jarvis singing over a super rad beat and a mazzy star sample. good song.

i used to own This is Hardcore and the only thing i remember from it was when he said, "I'm not Jesus Christ, though I have the same initials."

Pulp: the crude, twisted years

http://www.fu-manchu.com/dawnofthedead2004/miguels/section/dawnjapposter.jpg

You're just a little girl (with blue eyes)
Everybody looks at you (well, it's your day)
And you're stepping from the black car
But you'll be getting back in soon (and on your way)
Little girl (with blue eyes)
There's a hole in your heart and one between your legs
You've never had to wonder which one he's going to fill in spite of what he said
You'll never get away hey you'll give it up one day come what may
Dad's not got a shot-gun
But his look's enough to murder you (see what you've done) and forget about the paintings
'Cos you'd better get the washing done (oh something's wrong)
Little girl (with blue eyes)
There's a hole in your heart and one between your legs
You've never had to wonder which one he's going to fill in spite of what he said
You'll never get away
Hey you'll give it up one day come what may
Face down on the pavement, chalk lines round your little hands (hit and run)
And now a mother sits in silence in a darkness she can't understand (where you've gone)
Oh little girl (with blue eyes)
There's a hole in your heart and one between your legs
You've never had to wonder which one he's going to fill in spite of what he said
You'll never get away
Hey you'll give it up one day come what may.
