i've told the story numerous times on ILX, but when i worked at a record store, there was a pizza joint next door that would allow us free refills all day long if we bought a soda in the morn. i'd have 5-6 cokes a day. i ended up getting a kidney stone. peed blood and it felt like i got kicked in the balls for 2 weeks straight.

I don't like Cola unless it's a mixer. I dunno why, it's a stupid prejudice really.

Amity Wong (noodle vague), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 09:15 (twenty years ago)

hmmm, seems there is noone offering up OK cola on ebay these days

bb (bbrz), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 15:00 (twenty years ago)

that's because it wasn't a cola.

elmo (allocryptic), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 16:09 (twenty years ago)

i like the existence of "Coke II"

kingfish trampycakes (kingfish 2.0), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 16:15 (twenty years ago)

I've got crazy juice.

I'm addicted to Coca-Cola, and for a while was drinking lots of Caffeine Free Coke because I was having trouble sleeping, but now that I drank all the caffeine free coke at my local ghetto bodega they haven't gotten any new shipments. I need sweet bubbly drinks. Pretty soon I'm gonna order all sorts of weird sodas, like ginger ales that have been made for 100 years and Vernors.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 16:25 (twenty years ago)

reed's ginger brew

ALE EIGHT-ONE

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 16:41 (twenty years ago)

my problem is I often like my soda to be dry and not too sweet. For instance, of the 3 major brands of ginger ale, I think Seagrams is the only one drinkable, perhaps it was made as a mixer so it's less sweet then Schweppes and Canada Dry? The best soda I ever had was when a friend made her own lime syrup and we mixed it with seltzer without making it too strong. It was just sweet enough, and totally refreshing.

I think I may open up an Olde-Time Soda Fountain and General Shoppe. I will call it Ye Olde-Time Soda Fountain and General Shoppe.

We will make things like Lime Ricky Sodas and Black Cherry Soda Milkshakes (the Purple Cow). How about a cinammon ice cream milkshake? It'll be called the Snickerdoodle Shake.

It'll be in some trendy part of brooklyn.

All employees will ahve to wear little Roly Fingers mustaches, women included.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

seriously dan this is the shit you want, right here.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:06 (twenty years ago)

will check it out, thanks!

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:30 (twenty years ago)

I can't believe I'm the only Materva fan around here.

walter kranz (walterkranz), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 17:32 (twenty years ago)

i think my sister likes materva, but i've never had it.

for me, a great, not too sweet soda is dr. brown's cel-ray soda. mmmmmmmmmmmmm!!!

tres letraj (tehresa), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:28 (twenty years ago)

I look down on people that like Pepsi better than Coke.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 18:53 (twenty years ago)

the very idea of celray completely throws me...i find it impossible to consider as a good thing.

but celry makes me angry in general.

Polar (which might be a real upstate sorta thing) used to make a thing called orange dry. it was kinda like onangina, but different..seriously dry soda.

Dan, i think they make most of the old candyshop/drugstore soda treats at that luncheonette place on driggs and lorimer. they might make them in the luncheonette on nassau and monitor too.

now ill go and have a cherry coke. and try to not pass out.

bb (bbrz), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 19:21 (twenty years ago)

You know what just came up the other day which I forgot about? Mandarin Orange Slice. That was the best orange soda.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 19:37 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone remember Rondo? I had a Rondo belt buckle when I was a little kid. I won it as a prize at the county fair.

OTM. they're too easily lured in by Pepsi's syrupy oversweetness, meaning they're popists who probably like tom hanks movies.

latebloomer: The Corridor (Yes, The Corridor) (latebloomer), Wednesday, 7 December 2005 22:52 (twenty years ago)

lime rickeys are the shit. there's an old candy counter down in Bay Ridge that still makes perfectly.

gold buck teef (mookie wilson), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:20 (twenty years ago)

I purposely threw a pepsi taste test once.

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:45 (twenty years ago)

you're going to offer free stuff for me to tell you your shitty drink doesn't taste any different from coke? ok, I'll tell you what you wanna hear.

turboalbino (haitch), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:46 (twenty years ago)

where in Bay Ridge?

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 8 December 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)

Like 86ish and 5th, or maybe 4th? It was a long time ago. A closer spot for rickeys is Tom’s Diner on Washington near the Brooklyn Museum. They have good egg creams too.

gold buck teef (mookie wilson), Thursday, 8 December 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

I finally went to Tom's Diner when I was unemployed, so being a thursday or whatever it wasn't as crowded as it'd be on the weekend. Didn't have a lime rickey though. What a great place, I hope it never leaves. I then went to the museum, then the library, 3 local landmarks I'd never been to. This was followed by a walk through prospect park. A very brooklyn day.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:29 (twenty years ago)

I purposely threw a pepsi taste test once.

Dude, but it does taste worse!

GET EQUIPPED WITH BUBBLE LEAD (ex machina), Thursday, 8 December 2005 15:30 (twenty years ago)

The Pepsi Challenge is total BS they taste totally different.

I'm pretty sure I could get it by seeing them pour the soda in to a glass, just by the bubbles/foam.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 8 December 2005 16:56 (twenty years ago)

Toms is closed Sunday, religous maybe, or just don't want to deal with the crowds that day. Saturday is a madhouse.

gold buck teef (mookie wilson), Thursday, 8 December 2005 17:00 (twenty years ago)
