Gris Gris?

Nod is great. No Doctors is not. I like Gris Gris -- but it might be too pop for you -- sounds like reverby ambient garage rock.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Go see Nod. No Doctors like teh bad rockin' vibe too much.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:50 (twenty-one years ago)

also, jon -- check out Joe Sorriero's solo cd-r, time and time takes two, on carbon records.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 17:57 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, I'll have to pick it up at the carbon bin @ the bop shop!

I have this CD (Space Is No Place Vol 1), but I don't really know any of thne bands except Sightings and No Neck. Tell me about them:

1. Flaming Fire - There is a sky
2. No-Neck Blues Band - For Russia with love
3. Axolotl - Chain of chance
4. Centuries - Born that way
5. Jesus With Me - Never got to China
6. Enos Slaughter - Miniature mass, indian masters
7. Electro Putas - Sagitarrius woman
8. Mouthus - Lost budgie
9. Sightings - Untitled
10. Naturally - Non non nee
11. Terrestrial Tones - Experimental farm
12. Breast Fed Yak - Infant shakes
13. Mountains of Mata Llama - Eternity
14. Las Malas Amistades - Discoteca adentro

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:10 (twenty-one years ago)

11. Terrestrial Tones - Experimental farm : eric from black dice and david from animal collective.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:11 (twenty-one years ago)

xposts Terrrestrial Tones is one of the Animal Collective dudes + Eric from Black Dice

Mouthus is a duo, guitar/effects and drums/electronics. Their CD is alright. They're more fun live because it's just a huge mess of distorted feedback.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I bought it in Mod Lang along with that last Erase Errata album which I promptly Ebayed.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

this CD, I mean.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Mouthus is like Sightings sibling band. Electro-Putas is Jaiko, the burlesque/mermaid dancer type, and they are totally awesome live, Can/High Rise etc

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:20 (twenty-one years ago)

so...is this cd "good"?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Jesus With Me - unfortunately gone, great 4-piece band made up of crazy drunken Russian dudes from Bay Ridge playing monster sludge on 2 guitars, 1 bass, drums. Live could either be on or off, but when they were ON they were ON.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:40 (twenty-one years ago)

any of you know much about vertical slit

artdamages (artdamages), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

unfortunately gone, great 4-piece band made up of crazy drunken Russian dudes from Bay Ridge

fantastic

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:41 (twenty-one years ago)

VERTICAL SLIT ARE THE SHIT BRO, but jack cole could expound on Jim Shepard way more eloquently than me.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I know quite a bit about Vertical Slit, but more about later Jim Shephard/V3/Lacquer stuff. Probably not as much as Roger Adultery, but probably more then most.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:51 (twenty-one years ago)

roger, Dan and jack cole need to collaborate!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I've emailed with the guy who runs V3 web. All the material is owned by his ex-wife Roxanne and his son. They may have high expectations for what it could be worth, as well as thinking people are trying to rip them off. I'd love to do a V3 collection and have some of the contacts to do it, just not really the time to sort it all out just yet. Maybe sometime.

The Vertical Slit stuff has come out a few different times in different editions, Ropeburn, Siltbreeze and a later cardboard cased cd? I think most of the Siltbreeze stuff is on the Ropeburn CD, which is the rare one. I'm most concerned with digging out the CD Negotiate Nothing that came out on Ropeburn, as well as some of the more accessible selections from various single releases.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 18:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I figured you types would know. I was thinking of checking out Under The Blood Red Lava Lamp. Apparently even chuck Eddy likes 'em.

Also if i were to buy, say two cds from the siltbreeze oeuvre what would you reccomend?

artdamages (artdamages), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:01 (twenty-one years ago)

The Dead C - Trapdoor Fucking Exit
Harry Pussy - What Was Music

(unless yr talking about the Vertical Slits specifically, in which case I'm clueless.)

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

naw, i meant other stuff.

artdamages (artdamages), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:03 (twenty-one years ago)

well, then those two get my endorsement! There's so much greatness, though. Charalambides "Market Square" or any other Dead C record or Tower Recordings stuff or..

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:04 (twenty-one years ago)

tangenitally related as they had a few singles of siltbreeze i think...does anyone like Halo of Flies?

artdamages (artdamages), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Market Square is amazing, but was it on CD, it's a 2lp set. My favorite Siltbreeze release w/ Trapdoor Fucking Exit.

Most of that Vertical Slit stuff is too lo-fi for me to really enjoy. If you can find Negotiate Nothing and Photograph Burns(which is easy) I recommend those thoroughly.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Why haven't I met Dan Selzer yet?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I like staring at his CD insert.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian it is because you hate dancing.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:17 (twenty-one years ago)

It is a myth that I hate dancing.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:18 (twenty-one years ago)

then why haven't you met Dan Selzer yet?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

What are some of your favourite dances then? can you charleston?

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:19 (twenty-one years ago)

ian hates dancing

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:24 (twenty-one years ago)

vertical slit's CD insert or my CD insert?

If people are dancing friday at Mighty Robot, i.e. if the vibe is right, I WILL play Jabdah by Koto.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:27 (twenty-one years ago)

what is going on Friday?

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Dan, you make me smile.

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:35 (twenty-one years ago)

tallboys playing, my girl kali's bday party, dan selzer djing and me playing a few records and getting LOADED.

lauren (laurenp), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:42 (twenty-one years ago)

oh. jeez.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

since kali is my new favorite person I will try to be there.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:44 (twenty-one years ago)

bday party for Vanessa from Tall Boys and Kali from the Affair, feat. the Affair, some band that is Vanessa's friend who used to be on Twisted Village or something and Aa, followed by dance party, if enough people stick around. Usual Mighty Robot cheap bar hosted by the fashionable Mike Goodstein and Illrijana(sp?) and I assume yr very own Lauren P will be there.

New Messages Alert:

nobody told me you were playing a few records, that's it, I totally quit.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:48 (twenty-one years ago)

jim shepard's legacy is doomed by his ex-wife's greed. his last album, which was never released, Motorcycle Movie is brilliant. also, ian who runs the v3 site and mental telemetry is one of my favorite people trying to do God's Work. jim's friend charles just put together another tribute to jim that is great with lots of extra jim stuff.

jack cole (jackcole), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

vertical slit's CD insert or my CD insert?

YOUR CD insert.

adam. (nordicskilla), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Which CD? You should see the new one. 20 pages of The Prefects.

Jack, I emailed Ian, he seemed to think it wasn't totally hopeless. Given the time, eventually, I'll try to get in touch with her.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

which of these bands should i see (http://www.bloomingtonfest.com/bands.php) ? ???

fucking chinese stars cancelled!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

dammit the SB and Exceptor are playing that night too. Good thing Mighty Robot is just a Williamsburg Bridge cab ride away. Or even fuck that, maybe I'll ride my bike.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 00:39 (twenty-one years ago)

my friend Oona is also having a birthday party on Friday; so no idea what i'll do... we'll seee.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 05:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Excepter.

they used to yell at me for spelling it "Exceptor".

which is much cooler.

sounds like a Marvel Comics villian.

The Fantastic Four vs. Exceptor!

drawn by Jack Kirby.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

it looks cooler with the o.

Excepter...that Fusetron LP is an album that I would like to heer.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 19 August 2004 03:31 (twenty-one years ago)

ha, Tim: That in my slsk queue right now. Deciding what the hell I'm gonna do on Friday night...

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 19 August 2004 03:35 (twenty-one years ago)

they have tons of music up on their website. their first record was partially recorded at my party at Plant Bar. It was one of their first shows and Jeff brought a giant traffic light, which added much to the ambience.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 19 August 2004 12:43 (twenty-one years ago)

but did it add as much ambience as the rave sirens?

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:12 (twenty-one years ago)

it was more a trippy weirdo "happening" vibe then a decadent gay disco rave vibe.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:19 (twenty-one years ago)
