What do you think of the 3 volume Pearls Before Swine tribute series on Secret Eye/Magic Eye rekkids? Featuring lots of grebt bands!

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:06 (twenty-one years ago)

anybody get this yet?

Pearls Before Swine "Wizard of Is" 2-CD (Water)
RealAudio Pearls Before Swine "Grace Street"
Culled from Tom Rapp's own collection, this amazing release features a whole CD of rare material including demos recorded during the '60s and '70s, many songs never before heard. A second disc contains live tracks and radio performances. Recommended!

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:07 (twenty-one years ago)

ack jesus. i didn't even know that existed! where's it available from?

Ian c=====8 (orion), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:08 (twenty-one years ago)

That's from Other Music's site.

hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Wizard of Is came out this month -- great radio and archive stuff. love the cover of "suzanne".

also ddb needs to wear a helmet. he seems to have fallen down a lot lately and injured his delicate head. i worry about you!

Sir Chaki McBeer III (chaki), Tuesday, 17 August 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

it's suckier.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 01:22 (twenty-one years ago)

but I need music to take drugs to!

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I THINK TEH SPACEMEN 3 SOLVED THIS, NO?

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

GAURDIAN ANGELS = MOST BEAUTFIAL SONG EVER

on the record it says it was recorded in Mexico in like the 1920s, right? And it totally sounds like it.

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I've only heard Balaklava, so from that:
Guardian Angels
(btw DD, what the liner notes say exactly is it "was recorded in guadalupe, mexico in 1929 on 78 r.p.m. equipment and specially reprocessed for stereo.")
There Was A Man
Translucent Carriages
Images of April
I Saw the World

Suzanne is great but I prefer Cohen's version.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 03:29 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah that's it.

How does the later post-ESP stuff stack up to the first 2 albs? I have a later one, "Starchild" I think, but don't remember being that impressed by it.

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 03:37 (twenty-one years ago)

the only post-ESP stuff I have is "Beautiful Lies You Can Live In" which has more of a straight up folk rock vibe, but still with great lyrics and some really nice moments, such as "The Snow Queen." Also have the Tom Rapp solo album "Sunforest" which is alright. I probably listen to that one the least.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 03:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I have that Beautiful Lies one too.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 03:54 (twenty-one years ago)

and what are peoples thoughts on the Rapp comeback alb "Journal of the Plague Year"?

Daniel DiMAGGIO (Daniel DiMAGGIO), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 03:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't heard it, but I've heard positive things about it.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 05:22 (twenty-one years ago)

His son put out a 7" on Harriet under the name Shy Camp...guess what...

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 14:01 (twenty-one years ago)

dude if a parent isn't responsible for their kid murdering another kid, I hardly see how they're responsible for shitty music.

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 14:05 (twenty-one years ago)

im saying shitty music BREEDS shitty music.

TWEE IS IN THE GENES.

ddb (ddb), Wednesday, 18 August 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

hstencil is spot on -- ding ding.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Jack Rose = boring Fahey copyist.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

the world contains too many fahey copyists, the bad side of the Fahey revival.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

there aren't that many Fahey revivalists.
JR ISNT TTHAT BAD. HE IS A NICE LISTEN.

FUCK LEO KOTTKE IN THE EYE.

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I paid $2 for the only Kottke record I own, and I bought it solely based on the cover, which includes Donald Duck. It was too much to pay for it.

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

what i love about faheyrevivalists is that they just focus on the folky guitar stuff. WHAT ABOUT THE NOISE? Fahey could toss out a blast of earbleed with the best of them in the day -- see his live stuff with Red Crayola at that one hippy dippy 60s festival.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

well yeah plus his tape college stuff (both 60s and 90s) was AWESOME.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 19 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)
