The more luminous teh better

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:30 (twenty years ago)

my favourite drink, which i discovered in poland c. 1999:

one part ZUBROWKA vodka
two-three parts apple juice
one ice cube

joy

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:34 (twenty years ago)

Bacardi Vanilla + Capt. Morgan + Butterscotch Schnapps + Kahlua in equal parts

elmo, holy helper (allocryptic), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Does it have to be ZUBROWKA? Or can it be replaced with GENERIC NAME VODKA?

Elmo that sounds DESIRABLE

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:38 (twenty years ago)

no, it has to be ZUBROWKA. ZUBROWKA is flavoured with the HERB BELOVED BY THE EUROPEAN BISON.

BISONGRASS

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:38 (twenty years ago)

whiskey + ice + a little water

who fuckin cares what it tastes like

killy (baby lenin pin), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:39 (twenty years ago)

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:39 (twenty years ago)

if u wanna be really faggy about it you could also grab some apple crisps and throw one in the drink.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:40 (twenty years ago)

It's a very good drink, the bisonvodka+applejuice.
I always forget about applejuice, as a juice. The natural stuff, the stuff you can't see through, is the greatest though.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:41 (twenty years ago)

I think I will probably be able to find a grazing bison before getting my hands on Zubrowka vodka :(((

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:42 (twenty years ago)

For the ladies.

Bella Donna

equal parts amaretto and black rum, topped with sour mix. serve in a glass rimmed with cinnamon and sugar.

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:43 (twenty years ago)

anything with cinnamon in it is a friend to me.

rrrobyn (rrrobyn), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:44 (twenty years ago)

I don't know what black rum is or whether you can eat it, but I'd try that. Amaretto is basically liquid sucrose, though, so there's gonna be a sugar high and then a crash at some point.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:46 (twenty years ago)

tissp the bacardi/morgan/schnapps/kahlua concoction is a christmas drink my friends and i devised. it is called a RUM-PA-PUM-PUM. Drink straight up or on teh rox.

elmo, holy helper (allocryptic), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:46 (twenty years ago)

black rum aka dark rum has a nice molasses flava

elmo, holy helper (allocryptic), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:48 (twenty years ago)

black rum is teh gorgeous, but i will be attempting all these suggestions over the coming weeks (one night could be a bit too hardcore)

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:48 (twenty years ago)

i don't think zubrowka is hard to find! they have it at most boozerias here

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:49 (twenty years ago)

I'm a big fan of the gimlet: sweetened with Rose's if you use house-brand liquor, or unsweetened, with only fresh lime juice, if you use top-shelf stuff. Special mention goes to the tequila gimlet with Patron when it's about 92 degrees out.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:49 (twenty years ago)

i think zubrowka is actually fairly easy to get in the uk. wetherspoon's stock it, after all.

for maximum luminosity, you need chartreuse or creme de menthe. whether you'll be able to drink anything using either is another matter.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:51 (twenty years ago)

yes! tequila gimlets, aka crazy eddies, rule!

xpost to laurel

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:51 (twenty years ago)

TALLS.

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:52 (twenty years ago)

i will also vouch for the vodka gimlet w/ fresh lime juice

elmo, holy helper (allocryptic), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:53 (twenty years ago)

GIRL DRINKS

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:53 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm I have never discovered the Zubrowka, but now I am on THE SEARCH

Normally I would use blue curacao for maximum luminosity, but i can't keep living in the past

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Get in touch with yr feminine side, stence

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:54 (twenty years ago)

Vodka gimlets are my standard, usually at bars I use house voddy and Rose's. But if you use good enough booze at home (hel-LO, bottle of Grey Goose in my freezer), you just need to squeeze a few lime wedges into it and SIP.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:56 (twenty years ago)

i am buying tequila & whisky today.
the cheap kind.
also beers.

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:57 (twenty years ago)

i once encountered a friend (who was rolling HARD at the time) drinking a jaegermeister + cinnamon schnapps + creme de menthe nightmare. not recommended.

elmo, holy helper (allocryptic), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:59 (twenty years ago)

i think if you add 151 to that, it's called liquid cocaine.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 16:59 (twenty years ago)

a bloody mother: equal parts scotch and tomato juice. sounds gross, isn't so much.

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:00 (twenty years ago)

a fun and classy thing to do: get a bunch of grain alcohol and soak maraschino cherries in it, then distribute them to friends.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:01 (twenty years ago)

CAMPARI = TEH NOIZE DRINK

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:02 (twenty years ago)

it's a bit too weak to be noize.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:02 (twenty years ago)

chartreuse tastes great!

s1ocki (slutsky), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:03 (twenty years ago)

feh.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:03 (twenty years ago)

campari tastes awesome, though

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:04 (twenty years ago)

chartreuse is for goths

elmo, holy helper (allocryptic), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:05 (twenty years ago)

however, OUZO == NOIZO

elmo, holy helper (allocryptic), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:07 (twenty years ago)

Ingredients:

* 2 oz Gin
* 1 Egg white
* 1 oz Light cream
* 1 tsp superfine Sugar

Mixing instructions:

In a shaker half-filler with ice cubes, combine all of the ingredients. Shake well. Strain into a cocktail glass.

It was bridget bardot's fave iirc

Should've Never Give Jimmy Mod Money (The Famous Jimmy Mod), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:07 (twenty years ago)

CUTTY'S PUERTO RICAN MARGZ TO TEH THREAD.

= VERY NOISE.

ddb (ddb), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:08 (twenty years ago)

mind eraser...

on ice theoretically...kahlua, then vodka, then seltzer... carefully poured to maintain the layers. drop a straw to the bottom. suck down as fast as possible. kahlua coats. vodka passes through without making a scene. then seltzer cleanses.

3 or 4 of those will do ya good.

i'm a whiskey and coke guy tho. or soco. or sprite. or seven and seven. etc.

midori sours are good.

room temp shots of ouzo and backgammon on a balcony on a nice summer's day! gateway to chill.
m.

msp (mspa), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:11 (twenty years ago)

anything alcoholic + anything sweet = barf

whiskey + water
whiskey + ice
whiskey + water + ice

any of the above are my faves

killy (baby lenin pin), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:12 (twenty years ago)

I am also normally a whiskey drinker but I am fed up of going into a bar and ordering the same thing over and over. Thankfully all these suggestions should at least get me looked at pretty funny

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:14 (twenty years ago)

(Perhaps I should print the thread and take it with me)

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:15 (twenty years ago)

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v309/plsmith/182424114778l.jpg

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:18 (twenty years ago)

i have never had a mint julep, but i would like my first to be on the deck of a riverboat casino. i will be wearing a white linen suit with a gardenia in the lapel.

elmo, holy helper (allocryptic), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:25 (twenty years ago)

Who's yr friend in the glasses?

steal compass, drive north, disappear (tissp), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:25 (twenty years ago)

they have bourbon in berlin?

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:36 (twenty years ago)

pete that picture is awesome and classy.

Allyzay Rofflesberger (allyzay), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:44 (twenty years ago)

it was a pretty strong drink too

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:49 (twenty years ago)

didnt you mention making a ton of juleps for the derby, stencil?

pssst - badass revolutionary art! (plsmith), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:52 (twenty years ago)

I always though juleps would be something delicious and light and summery, and I've been so so disappointed to find that I hate them and they aren't any of those things.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:55 (twenty years ago)

get a mojito

gbx (skowly), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:57 (twenty years ago)

wtf to a drink that's mostly bourbon and sugar being "light and summery." they are delicious tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:58 (twenty years ago)

I didn't know what was in them, Stence -- just saw mentions in fiction and film.

Laurel (Laurel), Thursday, 16 March 2006 17:59 (twenty years ago)

h, i may be making the trek for the derby this year. you going?

otto midnight (otto midnight), Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:15 (twenty years ago)

probably not. churchill downs is pissing me off.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:17 (twenty years ago)

BULLSHIT

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 16 March 2006 18:21 (twenty years ago)

ill second the apple and buffalo vodker...there are several brands of it. and apple juice in only a small amt.

ill also remind everyone of irish whiskey (atleast 2 parts) + ginger brandy (no more than 1 part) + topped with a splash of soda...lighton the ice (or shake over ice and then top with soda)....
