I (predictable) like stuff on Ocora.

Shamans and Llamas, the Turgun Alimatov record, Munir Bashar, etc.

the World Music Library label is also great and kind of unsung (CD era, so there you go I guess) .. dunno if the stuff is still in print. man, they had a shit-ton of releases though, like a hundred strong. The Music of Yi People in Yunnan, China is a big hit in my household.

the ice cream thing reminds me of the dutch street organ mp3's posted back in the early days of beware of the blog...

does anyone have any thoughts on the hEMIspheres series, after all. i see them around in used world bins often enough, but something makes me skeptical.

i don't know if this is considered 'world music' because it's pop, not traditional music, but i am very into salif keita (mali) for nice, relaxing early evening music. i can't recommend a specific album because what i have is i think a live show or just a random compilation someone in senegal made for my sister but it has a lot of the songs on moffou on it.

I saw Seu for free a couple weeks ago... he was pretty good except for the one cover he did ("Mais Que Nada") which was shockingly bad.

He was a lot better than I expected. Gotta say I've been lukewarm on the samples I've heard from last years album that everybody dug so much (not the soundtrack thing), but live it came off amazingly well. Good arrangements and musicians up there with him. Don't remember hearing 'MQN' but he did two of the Bowie covers: Rebel Rebel and Ziggy Stardust
