brock (brock), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 20:26 (twenty-one years ago)

tell him the tracks he's D/L-ing from you are "as pointy as a wizard's cap".

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

you can put Johan Kugelberg's version of It's a Rainy Day Sunshine by Faust on a Homosexuals bootleg that will circulate for years so that Dominique Leone will claim to have the Homos cover of the Faust song in his review of the first Homos CD reissue on Pitchfork.

whoops, already did that.

but fuck downloading. Just name some files joy_division_pil_jam.mpg and see what happens. maybe I'll do that if I ever get my mac soulseek to see uploads.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 20:58 (twenty-one years ago)

can you believe this site is still around?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, at least either of those reviews didn't call him a "fat soulless fuck." I mean, you'd have to be a real moron to write, let alone publish, something like that.

ME, what is the reference on that quote?

gygax! (gygax!), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey did someone originally refer to JOR as a fat soulless fuck in a review? Because I remember him calling himself that in last year's BBGun and was wondering where that came from.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, it's that drillrod who posts on ILM as "naive teen idol", apparently.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:23 (twenty-one years ago)

But source ME, source. Is it online? Link?

dude he's not even really fat anymore. the comment probably got to him, we KNOW he read it. what a dick, but what do you expect from a guy named W31N3R.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Thurston: I mean your sort of a full-bodied person. I mean you’re not like a skinny stringbean.
Jim: I’m a fat soulless fuck.

Kim. Noo.
Thurston: You’re not a fat soulless fuck, despite the headlines. I mean, I’m a stringbean and I like fullness so…

dean? (deangulberry), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 21:59 (twenty-one years ago)

yes that's the quote. I still have that BBGun. Vincent Gallo is on the cover.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:00 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha ... I'd never actually read that BBGun thing before.

this exchange was hilarious:

Kim: Wow. And what intrigues you or mystifies you most about women now?
Jim: You mean mentally or physically?

Kim: Either one. Or both. First get the physical then we’ll get the mental.
Thurston: Physiologically.
Jim: This is embarrassing to answer.

Thurston: Physiologically.
Jim: Physiologically? What does that mean?

Thurston: That means physically but with uhh…
Jim: Why men are attracted to breasts.

Kim: So, you are mystified why you are attracted to breasts?
Jim: Yeh, I don’t know why.

Kim: It’s like "boing!"
Jim: No! I did not say that. Let’s make it very clear I did not say that.

Monetizing Eyeballs (diamond), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah BBGun is pretty much my favorite U.S. music mag now but it only comes out once a year. It's run by ex-SY/Pussy Galore drummer Bob Bert. The latest issue has Genesis P-Orridge on the cover.

AaronHz (AaronHz), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:19 (twenty-one years ago)

matt and I were in the same electronic music program, though I suppose he also got a composition degree, whereas I dropped out to silkscreen posters for my "3 Hours of Skullflower" pledge drive show. Never read the stylus article, will look it up. People should really be nice to each other, especially if they don't know them.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:22 (twenty-one years ago)

ryan writes What a sad shock it is to meet someone you have a tremendous respect for and realize that they're not exactly the person you hoped they might be

Isn't it the other way around. I wonder how Jim felt after spending an afternoon with him then reading the review? I don't think it was a kneejerk reaction. Ryan tells him the album is "pretty good". That's not what I got from the review.

Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Tuesday, 24 August 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i know absolutely nothing about orourke as a public entity, but he doesnt come off as a prick or lame musician at all. respectable answers i think! that and thurston moore asked hillarious questions.

I'll have you know I wrote to Chuck Warner about that prior to doing the review just to clear it up - and even he didn't know if it was the Homosexuals or not. In fact, he asked Bruno, and he said that he couldn't remember playing it, but that they played so many songs, it was definitely possible.

After the review ran, I got an email from Chuck saying that he found out it was the Kugelberg track.

dleone (dleone), Thursday, 26 August 2004 14:09 (twenty-one years ago)

it's all in the timing...Chuck had emailed me asking me about it, because he knew it came from me. I told him Johan should know as I got it from a CD Johan made for Richard Mason, who had sent it to me 4 or 5 years ago. (Mason wrote the Scritti Politti/Desp Bikes article for Perfect Sound Forever.) Chuck told me what Bruno said but I think he couldn't get in touch with Johan at that point, like he was on vacation or something. Then a month or so later Chuck wrote me back because Johan cleared it up. If you ever saw the original 2cd Homosexuals bootleg I compiled, Rainy Day was a the end with a question mark after it. Most of the Homos stuff that was circulating on the internet and amongst traders came from that CD.
