OPERATION IVY

dean? (deangulberry), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

i think that's the only band that has got anyone banned.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:25 (twenty-one years ago)

im listening to a new album from a "European" group from a country where adam is from.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:26 (twenty-one years ago)

THE STREETS

ha

dean? (deangulberry), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:27 (twenty-one years ago)

NEVER!!!!

no, indie pop on domino.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah I was gonna say, I've seen jack cole make fun of the Streets in a record store in Portland, so I doubt he'd about-face.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Ash?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

i would about face if the streets actually recorded a good record.

hint -- they've toured with radiohead.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:29 (twenty-one years ago)

pavement?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:30 (twenty-one years ago)

did pavement actually ever tour with radiohead?!?

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

no but the jicks did on the last us tour.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:32 (twenty-one years ago)

CLINIC?

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

lauren wins by a landslide and now im banned. *weeps*

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:40 (twenty-one years ago)

oh, i was going to say clinic, but i wouldn't consider them "indie pop" necessarily

dean? (deangulberry), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:41 (twenty-one years ago)

what would you call them?

(i listened to the franz record it was pretty generic blah blah blah snore)

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

snow patrol?

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

adam is NOT scottish.

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

it's ok. clinic kind of rule. in the immortal words of becki bondage:

"stand strong, stand proud!
shout your feelings loud!"

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

i like the new one better than the last one -- less gloss.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Clinic.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

they're okay live, I would never buy a record (sorry!).

(to h) nothing to be sorry about, you fool.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

i like them better on record. funny old world, ain't it.

lauren (laurenp), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:56 (twenty-one years ago)

it is!

I really should be sorry all the time though. Not being sorry hasn't gotten me anywhere.

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

no you shouldnt. you should only be sorry sometimes (like when you actually should). h is my little internet buddy.

jack cole (jackcole), Thursday, 26 August 2004 16:58 (twenty-one years ago)

"little"

hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:00 (twenty-one years ago)

uh, seeing them perform in the doctor's masks is kinda lame. their music is good enough (well i haven't listened to them in forever) to not need a schtick, but seriously, when the lead singer has a whole cut in his mask so he can sing or play the melodica or whatever is kinda lame

JaXoN (JasonD), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:18 (twenty-one years ago)

lameAGNIFICENT

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I really want to see them live, so I can assess this for myself.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm kinda sad I didn't get scolded for my Op Ivy enthusiasm up there. PICK IT UP HUP HUP HUP HUP CHIGGADUGGADOO CHIGGADUGGADOO

I was going to say Sons & Daughters.

jel -- (jel), Thursday, 26 August 2004 17:54 (twenty-one years ago)

ah shit... hate my game... i liked "take me out" from FF... but not much else. and even then, it's nothing but retread right?

"a grand don't come for free" thoroughly changed my mind about the streets. i really like that record. it's amusing and well done on occasion. plus that one catchy number got me through some really crappy work weeks when i needed some energy.

why did i know it was clinic?
m.

msp (msp), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I have never knowingly heard or seen the band FRANZ FERDINAND.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:54 (twenty-one years ago)

The Damned played here last week and they interviewed the Captain on the radio and he said he likes THE FRANK FERDINAND.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Thursday, 26 August 2004 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Franz Ferdinand, I could see myself enjoying them for a moment when I'm really really drunk and I think they're whatever band I usually think The Strokes are when I'm drunk and enjoy their songs.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Thursday, 26 August 2004 19:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a Clinic record. It's just okay. It's ANGLOPHILE BAIT if you ask me.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 19:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I am about to Ebay my entire life.

adam. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 26 August 2004 19:13 (twenty-one years ago)

OPERATION CLIFF CLAVIN

Ian c=====8 (orion), Thursday, 26 August 2004 20:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I meant to ask you, hstencil - that moment when he walked through the audience in The Starry Plough while playing guitar, does he do that at every show? Please say no.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:20 (twenty-one years ago)

i would shout at you if you were in my living room with that hat.

i can't vouch for anyone else, but after dark it might get you shot.

dean? (deangulberry), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:21 (twenty-one years ago)

xpost - not if the dressing room's connected to the stage, no.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:22 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, people in LA tend to be more understated.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:24 (twenty-one years ago)

don't take it personal. it's the hat.

dean? (deangulberry), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:31 (twenty-one years ago)

adam: "WHERE'S WALDO?????"... I love that story.

also: the hat is nice, as is 3rd wave dancehall. as is BC.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm listening to leather hyman right now. i guess they are indie rock or something. i have never heard of them. but i like it. i like clinic too.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i got an old mindless self indulgence cd in the mail, should i listen to it? i'm kinda scared of it.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:43 (twenty-one years ago)

arent leather hyman part of the true classical (label) silverlake scene that WACO are also part of?

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:46 (twenty-one years ago)

scott, you can send me any promos you don't want. Thanks.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, they are on that label. i don't know nothing about that label.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

that Waldo story made Mrs "." crack up, even though she guessed the punchline before I told her it.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

okay, adam. do you want the sebastian bach dvd i got?

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Seriously, yes!

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't think i would ever watch it. it's sebastian solo.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

he's on the gilmore girls now.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:51 (twenty-one years ago)

he's in lane's garage band. they did a rancid cover on last week's episode.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:52 (twenty-one years ago)

tell mrs. "." that i'm always glad to entertain even(/especially?) at my expense.

gygax! (gygax!), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Question - does anyone here know what Waldo is called in the UK?

Hmmmmm....

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 16:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Wally.

jel -- (jel), Friday, 27 August 2004 17:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Jel! That question was not meant for you.

adam. (nordicskilla), Friday, 27 August 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 16:10 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm only telling you all this because I am in a good mood -

My first college crush was this really tall girl who liked Rancid and Op Ivy and Crass and lots of bad English ska bands. She made me a tape of it and I listened to it straight for a week and then she started going out with a guy who liked the Manic Street Preachers and who would dance on tables at parties. But then they had a fight and she asked me walk her home through her neighbourhood (the sketchiest in Norwich!!) and then when we got to her house she opened the gate and then rushed in and closed it and said "goodbye" from behind it! And then I had to brave all of the teenage ruffians in order to get back to my house and play Fifa 98 and then collapse in a sad, drunken heap!

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 16:14 (twenty-one years ago)

norwich has sketchy areas???????

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 10 January 2005 16:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Damn right! It has one of the biggest red light districts in the UK!

You really should travel a bit, Gareth. Try and see the world for goodness sake.

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 16:37 (twenty-one years ago)

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 16:38 (twenty-one years ago)

soon, my child, soon (spring, i think).

i have never been to norwich. i have only been to kings lynn

charltonlido (gareth), Monday, 10 January 2005 16:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Norwich has its charm - many great pubs and a pedestrianised city centre! Also a thriving arts scene and a canal!

.adam (nordicskilla), Monday, 10 January 2005 16:59 (twenty-one years ago)

and it's where napalm death is from...YAY!

ddb (ddb), Monday, 10 January 2005 17:03 (twenty-one years ago)

let's go to norwich, gareth. also, we still have to see the palm trees.
