I have this odd compulsion to go to the State Fair tomorrow. I haven't been to it since junior high or something, but nonetheless, like a moth to the flame, I feel I must look at baby goats, see amazing kitchen demos, and eat elephant ears and maybe risk my life on a few rides in poor repair run by shady carnival operators.

In the UK, carnival rides in poor repair play old rave music at ear-shattering volume, yet in the US they all play power ballads. Why is this?

cultural cheese difference. when the rides are here in portland for the rose festival they always hire homeless kids, which is as funny as restaurants who train homeless kids -- welcome to our better lifestyle involving lots of speed and booze x 2,
