the a frames are the best band ever right now (got that?) and i can't wait for 3. they rerecorded the whole thing and the original tracks/production/etc was amazing but they weren't happy w/ it.

also, don't forget the intelligence! and fm knives! and the country teasers! all of these bands are cousins, basically.

the intelligence album is great! why you h8, ddb?

fm knives = very buzzcocks. actually, entirely buzzcocks. but woodhouse, their main d00d (they have now broken up), produces all of the a frames/intelligence stuff and writes with erin, etc. ALL of them are sweethearts?

WELL.

I really fell in love with Intelligence live, bought the record and it's just Lars, most of the songs are pretty meh. Some songs are ok, Night In Jail (or whatever it's called) is a treat. I just enjoy Intelligence as a band more than as a solo project.

I havent heard the 7" and the NARNACK lp has a bunch of extra songs or something.

I'll score some FM Knives and get back.

OK, then let's say that A-Frames 2 is kind of sloppy, not all that great, Computer Cougar did it five years earlier, dude on vocals sounds like Matthew Steinke of Satisfact (who did it seven years earlier), etc.

Their articulations are spazzoid with little regard for the sound of the instruments. The slide playing is sloppy. Also, they're sometimes out of tune.

Tim. I think you're wrong. The BASS is BOSS. Really. I also think the guitar sound is pretty thought out and with regards to tuning, I don't hear it. Really they both compliment each other. As for slides, FEW ROCKERS can really do this. ESP. in teh indie/punk world.
PLZ LISTEN to COUNTER EVOLUTION. FUTUREWORLD IS REALLY THE ONLY SONG THAT I CAN SEE AS BEING CONSIDERED SLOPPY, IT STARTS KIND OF FUNNY.

Whether it's good or not, though, depends on how it's done. It doesn't add anything positive to the A-Frames' music.

ddb, just listening to the first few tracks here...The guitar on "Nuclear" is not out of tune??? "Counter Evolution" is pretty good, but I think the gtrist and bass playa overplay. The instruments sound crappy because they're spazzing out and hitting the strings too hard. You can get a big ballistic sound out of your amp and control your articulations more.

Arab on Radar was another band whose music could have benefitted from less sloppiness in execution, I think.

Which Arab on Radar albums have you heard, Tim? Soak The Saddle has a fair bit of sloppiness, but Yahweh Or The Highway is pretty tight sounding. On the other hand, The Chinese Stars are decidedly not sloppy and all of their songs sound the same.

hmmmmm, i dunno...are you talking about the bass and guitar being out of tune with each other. or the actual instruments being out of tune.

the chords (guitar) he is playing are weird...that lead thing sounds a bit wierd too. but it never struck me as "being out of tune"

The guitar just sounds out of tune on "Nuclear." Maybe sometimes they're hitting the strings so hard that the notes sound out of tune even if they tuned up OK beforehand. Also, do they tune down? They might be playing with loose strings to begin with and that's contributing to the problem.

Rough Day at the Orifice was the Arab on Radar album that I had. I also saw them live once.

arab on radar i liked because of the odd tunings.

computer cougar was better on 7"... cc < Rorschach

i've always been slightly nixied by the aframes similarity to the fall.

satisfact i could see maybe... great band... (octant was pretty dang weird tho. and in a "gee, i dunno" sort of way.) satisfact's best stuff was his more psychy-feelie... i'm gonna have pull my satisfact records out now.

dude the FM Knives broke up? fuuuuck. They are one of the bands I want(ed) to see live. How verifiable is this? They are(were) super awesome. I see them as being, if such a thing is possible, an entirely modern update of the Buzzcocks/Boys/Undertones sort of sound, versus a band like the Exploding Hearts, for example, who I also really like but who are (were) frankly more throwback/retro in their stylistic execution.

the A Frames' 'Neutron Bomb' 7" is awesome, have been kinda on the fence about the other stuff I've heard from them.
