The old, fat PS2s need the network adapter (ie ethernet card) (plugs into the back), which is like 40 bucks. The new skinny dudes got it built in. There's a disc with a setup program that writes a network config to yr memory card which games then read when you go online. There's no Xbox Live-esque central infrastructure--each game has its own online setup. There aren't subscription fees (except for like Final Fantasy XI or something).

I wonder if Winning Eleven 9 players (such as myself) would be able to play against PE5 types. Imagine the ILx tournaments!

If you can a) remove the plate thing on the back b) put thing X into receptacle Y and c) use the tedious on-screen keyboard to set shit up then you'll be ok.

Don't buy the headset they'll try to sell you. I used to use the Xbox Live one and it was awful. Mostly rednecks and children calling each other "niggers" and "faggots." Though the UK version might be different.

Now that I have Shadow of the Colossus I don't know. Especially considering that Soul Calibur III comes out today. Probably not.
