Mancala games

I have been introduced to this type of stone-moving, capturing, counting game just recently, and I think it has the potential to overtake my sudoku addiction.

Apparently there are many rules variations and names, mostly associated with a particular African nation.

I used ot paly this game a lot as a kid. It was big in my family. I think, though, if I were to play it again, I wouldn't buy a board. I'd just buy glass beads (they're like a dollar for 50 or something) and a piece of wood, and make little hollows in the wood and varnish it. Then again, I am cheap. Like, epic cheap. The proportions of my cheapitude are epic.

Surely the $10 (or less) that mancala sets go for in drug stores is less expensive than that time when you could be out there making SALES SALES SALES!

Hell, I was gonna teach my friends with an egg carton and a roll of pennies.

THANK YOU for this thread. I had completely forgotten the name of this game. Mancala. Thanks.
