Right, but I'm so divorced from that culture that I don't actually know which ones are good and which ones are just popularly played. Like, Neverwinter Nights was apparently played by a lot of people but I heard very little positive feedback about it.

Agreed. Some part of me just feels like it's a really inappropriate and fucked up amalgam, like a Rainbow Brite/GI Joe team up or something.

Sunshine really wasn't that bad. It was disappointing to me cos I was expecting SM64-2, but I think without the weight of expectation I'd have enjoyed it plenty, it's definitely worth playing.

Luigi's mansion is short, lots of fun, and pretty unique, gameplay-wise. Also well worth playing, if it's cheap.

It isn't bad, I just don't think it belongs in a discussion of games everybody "loved". It's easily one of the worst Mario games, but that doesn't mean that it isn't better than thousands of other games.
