TIGER WOODS PGA TOUR (ENTIRE FRANCHISE)
I used to love a tennis game for Nintendo or Sega i think it was just called "Tennis"

Lupton Pitman (Chris V), Friday, 23 September 2005 14:08 (twenty years ago)

oh shit how did i forget SUPER TENNIS for the snes??? rats!!

rio natsume, Friday, 23 September 2005 14:10 (twenty years ago)

I learned football from Real Football(or some such) for the Atari 2600 and Tecmo Bowl for the NES. My brother WORSHIPPED that game. He & his little middle school football friends would play it all day, occasionally trading with me to play Zelda.

was smash tennis the prequal to anna kournikova's smash court tennis?

rio natsume, Friday, 23 September 2005 14:34 (twenty years ago)

My brother also LOVED Ring King for the NES.

i preferred 4-D Boxing, which you can now get at Underdogs, i think.

I think it might have been, rio!

they were both namco

I never played anna's tho; was it good?

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 23 September 2005 16:50 (twenty years ago)

yes, it's a classic! i remember some magazine (arcade maybe? whatever happened to that?) having like a 10 page spread on it, saying it was the best tennis game yet. the multiplayer bonus games were especially good, one where the ball is a time bomb, the longer you rally, the bigger the explosion. beautiful console sprites and lots of cool little quirks like hitting the umpire from his chair and random crowd noises like an ice cream seller and some dude singing "i love kournikova!". when you play in london, you can hit the queen's guards in the nuts, and knock a policeman off his bike!

and i just remembered - SUPER PUNCH OUT!

rio natsume, Friday, 23 September 2005 17:29 (twenty years ago)

baseball stars was incredible! as was speedball 2: brutal deluxe; so wonderful in how incomprehensible the rules and action were, how impossible it was to tell the two teams apart, and how the action naturally accelerated to a lightspeed pace during a set due to successive upgrades.

personally i've enjoyed anything that claimed to be THE ONLY SPORT OF THE 25th CENTURY or some such: speedball, powerball on the sega genesis, bizarre lost ps1 games like pitball and blast chamber. anything with 4 player ability that doesn't require everyone to have a real league's players memorized.

metonymus prime (rgeary), Friday, 23 September 2005 17:34 (twenty years ago)

oh yeah what happened to arcade? probably the first magazine I started buying religiously

smash tennis on the snes has a similar charm to kournikova's then: one one stage you play on a mountain top and hit a climber off as he reaches the summit; playing in an indoor gym you hit a waitress who is carry drinks... I mean cutesy but fun

I'd love to get some of these back actually

the ones in-and-around the ocarina of time period especially

cozen (Cozen), Friday, 23 September 2005 18:23 (twenty years ago)

Ken Griffey Baseball 1 for the SNES is my favorite baseball video game of all time, better than Baseball Stars or RBI Baseball even.

NHL 94, Madden 2006, Super Tecmo Bowl, Winning Eleven 8, NES Ice Hockey, Golden Tee, Tony Hawk PS 4, 720, Skate or Die, NES Track and Field, California Games....

Anyway, I love sports games.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 23 September 2005 18:55 (twenty years ago)

melton mowbray (adr), Saturday, 24 September 2005 16:53 (twenty years ago)

Wow, it was a typo, but that game should so have been called River City Rampage.

http://blog.wired.com/games/2008/07/nba-live-09s-dy.html

LOS ANGELES -- NBA Live 09 will feature "Dynamic DNA," a system that allows the game to change a player's stats and abilities based on nearly real-time information from real NBA games.

The system, which was announced during a surprise appearance from NBA hall-of-famer Bill Walton, automatically updates copies of the title from the same stat tracking software used by NBA coaches and analysts during the regular season, based on player performance and tendencies.

The example presented by EA Sports head Peter Moore was of a player who favored one side of the court over the other. If a player alters this pattern during the season, the game will automatically add that new data to Live '09, altering not just that player's skills and style of play, but the entire dynamic of whichever team he plays for.

Dynamic DNA will make its debut when NBA Live 09 hits stores on October 7.

one month passes...

whoa Madden 09 is pretty damn cool. just kicked ass with oakland 27 - 7 in my first game since playing american football on computer "tv sports football"

can't wait to play a season

Ste, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 12:30 (seventeen years ago)

I played a little bit of EA's NHL demo, and it's pretty nice. I switched to a control system that uses the right stick to shoot. I am a sucker for those kind of control systems, and it works pretty well. Also, the game looks terrific.

polyphonic, Wednesday, 27 August 2008 17:12 (seventeen years ago)

so i'm getting slaughtered in the season/franchise, but i'm still loving it. the commentary is delightfully cheesy.

the madden test is stupid though, the pass defence doesnt' make sense.

Ste, Thursday, 28 August 2008 08:44 (seventeen years ago)

there is an amount of new madden conversation here: YR ROLLING MADDEN VIDEOS GAEM THRED

Roberto Spiralli, Thursday, 28 August 2008 10:57 (seventeen years ago)

polyphonic, is it an NHL 09 demo?

Will M., Thursday, 28 August 2008 17:16 (seventeen years ago)

It's the EA one. I get confused by the naming of sports games.

polyphonic, Thursday, 28 August 2008 20:57 (seventeen years ago)

But it's not the one for 2008 aka a year old? A new one? Because if there's a new one ARGHHH i really wish i had internet right now at home!

Will M., Tuesday, 2 September 2008 19:13 (seventeen years ago)

New one, yeah.

polyphonic, Tuesday, 2 September 2008 20:09 (seventeen years ago)

omg guys i bought NHL 09. i was gonna play some matches last night but i started playing "be a pro" mode and fucking... 6 hours DISAPPEARED

Brilliam (Will M.), Friday, 12 September 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)

seriously it's the most gratifying feeling to play as one dude, and find a killer lane and just make the pass that makes a goal

Brilliam (Will M.), Friday, 12 September 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)
