Is no one else laughing at this??!
Alex,
What is really funny about the way a major label conquers an indie label? Could Steven Marriott have been the genius to beat Steve Winwood? We will never know because his label could not promote in order to have an album on the order of "Back in the High Life."
If you want to laugh, pick out a topic that doesn't affect artist's lives.

One particular hotspot is where no tourist in London will ever take their tube: EAST LONDON. The poverty of East London is all up in the lyrics of such magicians as The Streets and Slaughter Mob.
Like the "no escape" attitude that runs through these streets, you also can't escape grime charging the pop charts of the US like the Beatles or Herman's Hermits. Lil Jon has expressed interest in being a part of this grime scene, even with so little money to be had, because there is that renewed purity that you can only hear in the sound of a true Englishman.

Ok, the death of daytime TV media figure Richard Whitely is a far greater event than 9/11 as far more old dears have passed away, babies been concieved, political prisoners tortured and killed, dictators toppled, scientific breakthroughs made etc. during it's airtime than did during the 9/11 coverage. Far more people have appeared on Countdown than died in the 9/11 attacks and the effect it had on them was a positive one rather than just death. 11 hijackers carried out the fateful attacks whereas hundreds have been part of the large production team responsible for Countdown. Whilst 9/11 gave us the poignant image of people holding hands and jumping to their death the flirtatious banter between Carol and Richard was an enduring joy that reminded us that love can come from more than just fear of death, 3 planes hit 3 targets in 9/11 whereas the 3 rounds of Countdown (the numbers, the letters and the conundrum) are very different affairs, Whitely himself was a newsreader who announced a sum total of events that added up to far more importance than 9/11, Whitely's playful punning never inspired a country to adopt an empirical foriegn policy and enter into an illegal and unjust war that lead to the debasing of the concept of the Free Man, Countdown has provided mental stimulus to the house-bound for years on end where 9/11 stripped debate and narrowed the questioning mind . . . .
9/11 and people dwelling on it represents the worst of humanity in both the heinous application of the event and the dogpile reaction it provoked whereas Whitely stood for everything that was good in the world - Radio 4, continous education and good humour'ed competition but also the parties with the ladies, a joy in and of life and incredible ties and jackets.

Rader, 60, of Park City, entered the guilty pleas as his trial was to begin.
Referring to his victims as "projects," Rader laid out for the court how he would "troll" for victims on his off-time, then stalk them and kill them.
"I had never strangled anyone before, so I really didn't know how much pressure you had to put on a person or how long it would take," he told the court in describing his first killings in 1974, a couple and two of their children.
Most of the victims' relatives who were in the courtroom sat silent and stared at Rader; one woman wiped away tears.
Prosecutors had said before the hearing that no plea deal had been made. Rader was arrested Feb. 25.
Saying he was motivated by sexual fantasies, the onetime president of the church council at Christ Lutheran Church and Boy Scout leader, Rader admitted killing 10 people in the Wichita area between 1974 and 1991. The serial killer known as BTK — the self-coined nickname that stands for "Bind, Torture, Kill" — taunted media and police with cryptic messages.
"Today in court, for the first time, our community and the nation has now heard Dennis Rader reveal that he has committed those homicides," District Attorney Nola Foulston said. "Today we have some resolution."
Sentencing was set for Aug. 17. Rader will not face the death penalty because the state had no death penalty at the time. But it's likely he'll never leave prison because each count carries a possible life sentence.
Rader, wearing a beige coat and dark tie, told District Judge Gregory Waller he understood the charges and that he was waiving his right to a jury trial.
"The defense worked with me real well," Rader said. "We went over it. I feel like I'm pretty happy with them."
Asked by Waller if he was pleading because he was guilty, Rader answered, "Yes, sir."
The earliest crimes linked to the BTK strangler date to Jan. 15, 1974, when Joseph Otero, 38, and his 34-year-old wife, Julie, and their children Josephine, 11, and Joseph II, 9, were found dead in their home.
"The whole family just panicked on me. I worked pretty quick," he said. "I strangled Mrs. Otero. She passed out. I thought she was dead. I strangled Josephine. She passed out. I thought she was dead. Then I went over and put a bag on Junior's head."
He later said about Mrs. Otero: "I went back and strangled her again."
When questioned by the judge about the motivation for the Otero slayings, Rader said: "That was part of what you call my fantasy."
Pressed further, Rader said, "Sexual fantasy, sir."
Rader has not been accused of sexually assaulting his victims, but he admitted masturbating over some of them.
BTK's next three known victims were young women found strangled in their homes: Kathryn Bright, 21, in April 1974; Shirley Vian, 24, in March 1977; and Nancy Fox, 25, in December 1977.
After years of silence, the killer resurfaced last year with a letter to The Wichita Eagle that included photos of the 1986 strangulation of Vicki Wegerle and a photocopy of her missing driver's license. Her case had not been linked to BTK until then.
That letter was followed by several other cryptic messages and packages. The break in the case came after a computer diskette the killer had sent was traced to Rader's church.
Rader also was charged with the killings of Marine Hedge, 53, who was abducted from her Park City home on April 27, 1985, and found dead along a dirt road eight days later, and Dolores Davis, 62, who was abducted from her Park City home Jan. 19, 1991. Those deaths were not linked to BTK until Rader's arrest.
He described to the court how he chose his victims.
"If you've read much about serial killers, they go through what they call different phases. In the trolling stage, basically, you're looking for a victim at that time. You can be trolling for months or years, but once you lock in on a certain person, you become a stalker. That might be several of them but you really hone in on one person. They basically become the ... that's the victim. Or at least that's what you want it to be."
He said he told Nancy Fox he had "sexual problems," forced her to strip, then handcuffed her and strangled her with a belt. After she was dead, he said, he removed the handcuffs from her body and masturbated over her.
Rader has lived in the Wichita area almost his entire life, earning a criminal justice degree at a local university. He worked in suburban Park City as a compliance officer, handling code violations and stray dogs. He has been married for 34 years and has two grown children.
Victim families left the courtroom, escorted by officials into another building, and did not speak to reporters.
Steve Osburn, one of Rader's defense attorney's, said prosecutors' evidence against Rader included a confession, DNA and "personal trophies" Rader collected from his victims.
"It was a very solid case," Osburn said.
He said defense attorneys explored an insanity plea, but decided not to proceed.
"From a legal standpoint, we had nothing to work with," Osburn said.
Rader did not apologize during the hearing, though Osburn suggested later that Rader may apologize at his sentencing.
"Mr. Rader basically wanted to take responsibility for his actions," Osburn said.
After the guilty pleas, the Rev. Michael Clark, pastor of Rader's church, said: "That's what I hoped he would do."

If you're committed to bowing out then for God's sake go out with a bang. Horse is a lot of hassle and a big commitment. If you have an aversion to sweating, scabs, really painful shits, confinement, doctors or really, really thick people don't do it - you'll be running into them all very frequently. If you want to do something solitary that'll keep you occupied without much cerebral input from yourself I suggest reviewing horror films for a living.

Enquiring minds want to know.
Cheers,Alex in NYC
PS: If we can walk together, can we indeed then rock together?
Dear Alex in NYC,
There was recently a thread on the forum of the official Kevin Seconds website at http://www.kevseconds.com asking that very question! The link is here: http://www.kevseconds.com/viewtopic.php?t=1261&highlight=7+seconds+origin , however, if you want the brief answer, acc. to Kevin Seconds himself, "We've come up with all sorts of silly stories on how we came up with the name, mainly to disguise the sad fact that we just don't have a very exciting story behind it's origins :)", However, in the book American Hardcore, the author ostensibly credits the origin of the name 7 Seconds to "a nuclear-armageddon term adopted from Frederick Forsyth's Day of the Jackal." acc. to a "bRaD" from London, Ontario, Canada.
As for the Youssou N'Dour/Neneh Cherry 1994 hit single "7 Seconds", I can firstly say that I doubt it has anything to do with the aforementioned band, and is merely a coincidence. As to what the title exactly refers to, I'm not sure, but I have an idea. On a cursory glance of the choruses of the lyrics -- "It's not a second, seven seconds away/Just as long as stay, I'll be waiting", more or less -- and also the verses of the song, referring to children being born, I'm guessing it's the average time it takes for a baby to complete its birth from beginning of the exit of the mother's womb to be completely outside it. I can't vouch for the accuracy of that time calculation as I've never had a child, much less have witnessed a birth, and furthermore much less unleashed a stopwatch to time the birth.
To answer your final question, Rocking together while walking together is entirely possible, although in our age, we would just have to plan it, unless there happens to be a rock concert happening in NYC while I'm there (or in Seattle, if you are ever here) exhibiting much rock which we both agree to attend -- albeit, I'd guess there would be far more rocking than walking. That said, I don't care too much if you're into different bands -- I mean, no cause for such hatred, I'm just a different man. It's just a matter of pulling off the cover, and I will, too. We'll learn to understand with music deep inside, we'll have some possibility of making the world our unity plan.
This reminds of that I need to check tickets for the upcoming Shellac shows in late August at the Vera Project in Seattle. Even on my own, I plan to rock and walk by myself in that case at the very least, but will likely rock and walk with Matos and Kate Silver together.
Sincerely and Rockspeed,
Donut

My friend Chris had a theory that Mormon families were disproportionately inclined to own trampolines than non-Mormon families, based on a couple of Mormons that he knew. One day, he found himself on an airplane with an entire swarm of young Mormon men about to go on their mission. Seeing this as an opportunity, he stood up and asked them how many of their families owned trampolines. Half of them raised their hands.

I know, I was hoping there was some story of poor genital-based but not -centric decisions (like Nickalicious's true love thread but up a few more notches) where it would actually be an appropriate commentary for a clown/Harpo Marx figure to suddenly appear and clutch the gentlemen's manbag, producing a sound like unto the classic:

So, last Thursday a replacement for the spare (which is apparently a rare-ish part, being 15" instead of the more common 14" and 16" donuts) is located at a parts emporium in New Braunfels, which is most of the way to San Antonio from here. The guy says it will $30 and is to arrive at the store Friday, and he doesn't want to hold it for us all weekend unless we absolutely promise to go get it Monday morning. This is no problem, so we pledge to come get it. I've just returned from there, where the part was not available. The guy's excuse was that the car the part was going to be taken from didn't actually have the part. He said he could get another one, but it would come from California and would be $60. I told him he was an asshole for promising me an imaginary tire, a lying baiting switching conman theif crook criminal for trying to sell me another (which, given his record to date, I had no reason to believe actually existed) for twice as much, that I'd be damned if I'd reward that kind of business practice with my money, and that if someone stuck their hand in my pocket to try and rob me the way he was trying to rob me with his underhanded dishonest bullshit I'd break their arm for them. Then I drove back to town with my entire morning wasted and myself put in a vicious mood.
God fucking damnit I hate cars and the disgusting element you have to deal with to keep and maintain them.
Boycott any and all KCQ auto salvage locations in your neck of the woods, y'all.

The Cinemax rule: If two women are sharing a bed and one asks for a good night kiss, they will lez up in slow motion to a soundtrack dominated by alto saxophone. If at least one of them is wearing a thong, high heels or both, they will end up in a bubble bath surrounded by candles and incense. There will be much oohing and ahhing and they will acheive orgasm despite seeming to rub against every part of each other's bodies EXCEPT for the erogenous zones. If a man shows up, he will bring himself to orgasm by rubbing his penis on one of the women's behinds.

last weekend i got talked into giving an ankle-length leather jacket-wearing pompous prat a lift home from a party. he was not only wearing emo glasses with clear lenses in them but actually told me that they were non-prescription and he just thought they looked cool. then, after asking me who our premier is (as i work for his office) he tried to explain to me the state of local politics. then he asked me out not once but twice. thankfully the second time was out the front of his house. i didn't answer him, i just glared. he tripped over his leather jacket on the way out of the car. haha. knob.

Man... I feel like I've gone into another dimension. All last night after eatnig dinner I had bad pain in my right side (I'm starting to wonder if I have some gallstones), bad acid reflux and was a bit trembly with tired stress. Got home, tried to hook up the work laptop to do an oncall job and NOTHING WOULD WORK, it was a fuckin' comedy of errors. First I couldnt get the lappy onto the 'net at all, til (duh) I realised I had to change the IP and netmask to work on my own lan. Then that worked, but I couldnt run the secure client thingy to connct to the work lan. THEN after ringing Dom in a panic I discovered it was due to a username being a bit wrong (heh whoops). THEN I didnt know what my workmail password was and THEN, best of all, I discovered that the latest IE helpfully blocks popups without bothreing to make it clear it has done so - meaning I wasted an hour and a half fucking with a java app database yelling at it like I was Bernard doing his taxes.

dude whoever said orbit is better than she used to be is kind of OTM no matter what, i mean the only reason the woman showed up here and started posting was to stalk her ex and his new gf and accuse them of stealing her car or some weird shit like that, it was horrifying. she went completely insane on me when she first started for pointing out that marilyn monroe was not a fatty, ffs. the more you duders ignore her the better cos seriously i think she masturbates to people telling her to go fuck herself. -- Allyzay knows a little German (allyza...) I like how Superman's saddest day is the day on which he's forced to watch a chick flick rather than, say, the day his home planet exploded.

The delight stuff happens mostly in my creative ghetto, the streets of Chelsea. Coming out of our show, Mai and I run into Chrissie Iles and Philippe Vergne. They seem really interested in considering our show for inclusion in the next Whitney Biennial, which they're curating. Mai and I eat at a nice new Japanese cafe in Williamsburg, Supercore, then head for a party Jeffrey Deitch is throwing at his big warehouse on North 1st. Phiiliip, whose records I've released on my American Patchwork label, is performing, and I haven't seen him live for two years. And koalas_in_love is there!
The dark side begins to intervene when I approach the door of the warehouse. A man in a paramilitary uniform runs up to me. "Are you serious?" he demands angrily. "Are you seriously going into the street with that?" Of course! I have a bottle of beer in my hand, and this is America. I'm used to Berlin, where people walk everywhere with beer. I promise, slightly sarcastically, to stay just inside the lino line which demarcates the warehouse from the street. This isn't good enough: one of the organisers runs up and says "Please, stay right inside. We don't want any trouble."
