Here's a PDF copy of the actual order in the Department of Justice subpoena to Google for porn search results and queries (Gonzales v. Google). It's not every day that you see the phrases "teabagging" and "pearlnecklace" footnoted in a legal opinion -- see page 8, footnote 3. Also page 13, footnote 6 is highly amusing. Anyway, the bottom line is that Google has to turn over 50,000 random URLs from its index but no query strings, so most of the privacy concerns are now moot.

Veronica, I can see your conflict of interest arguments, but I do not see the point of the 'Springsteen did not care about social justice until Marsh came along.' I have read that elsewhere, and it may be true but so what. They schooled Bruce about social justice and you make it seem like they tricked Bruce into joining the church of scientology. Bruce's music may not be better for it, but the charitable causes that he has given money to are certainly better for his conversion to social justice.

i'm a 5' 8" white male with long flowing black hair that caresses my brow like rain upon a castle windowsill in the thunder of night. you were wearing black and white stripped leggings and a black skirt. you had a hawthorne heights t-shirt that ran across your figure softly and delicate like a rose in winter. you had black hair that covered your black lined eyes like a drape across the distressed sound of a dying soul. i was cowering in the window seat, tearing, staring out into darkness between 4th avenue and caroll street. you glanced at me once in a deep trance before throwing your hair back and returning to your magazine. i fell in love with you instantly. i felt our souls intertwine immediately after that glance.

love me undyingly.

Looking for someone to laugh with, to cry with, and to dream with. I have a lot to give and want so much to have that special someone in my life.

My ideal man is intelligent, educated, honest and sincere. Looks are not important to me, it is what is on the inside that truly counts. You are trustworthy and open minded, interested in working together to build a relationship based on understanding. A man that sees our potential together and encourages each other to reach for the stars.

here is a gem from livejournal:

as i'm grading assignments for [REDACTED] i come across a pile of late assignments from a boy who's never submitted anything before last week. all the assignments are perfect and commented like whoa and i note on his gradesheets 'beautiful comments!' goldstar smileyface A+
then i notice one of his class headers has another student's name and section number and is dated 2 weeks before any of the other classes are dated. and in fact, all of the late assignments this boy magically submitted now are styled identically to the class submitted with the erroneous header info.

instead of sending him a response of a couple of fat 0s and an F in the course as dictated by the [REDACTED] academic honesty policy, i decide to search thefacebook so i could have a snarl or two at the cheater and accomplice. expecting ricers or frat pledges that list 'beer, chicks' as their interests, i am surprised to find perfectly normal, adequately acceptable, friendly, intelligent looking, non-gross, indie rockers. sigh. the boy gets his 10% off, which leaves him with an 88. and i will probably tell the incredibly friendly push-over professor (who brings pizza and fresh fruit into the i.t. programming labs for her class) that she might want to check this out. maybe.

:(

haha

To pass the time, I played Sonic Adventure 2 Battle for the Nintendo GameCube. At approximately 7:15 AM (one hour after ingestion), I was in the process of battling a ghost boss in the game. I was noticing some mild nausea at this time, but thought I had it under control. During this time, the only bad part of the experience occurred: The ghost hit my character in the game. Immediately, fluorescent green vomit spewed from my mouth like a fountain.

...However, one time I turned and saw an empty clear, plastic videocassette case lying on the ground about 3 feet away, slightly opened. This time, I knew something was definitely different about it, but I couldn’t identify exactly what was so odd about it. Just out of curiosity, I stared at the seemingly normal case for about 10 seconds. Slowly, the case began opening and closing on its own. Though a very minor visual disturbance, this was very interesting and exciting to me at the time. I continued watching this same case for around 2 more minutes, very intrigued by its movements.

How Videodrome!

i love that picutre, cause its all rough tradey, and i imagine him topping me, his hard long cock thrusting into the soft folds of my ass...
but i also imagine him strong, and quiet absorbing me in his arms, as i weep about the state of the world.

CHILD STAR TO METH ADDICT (Jody Beth Rosen), Sunday, 26 March 2006 15:52 (twenty years ago)

In comedy circles, there’s a famous Saget story about the night his first daughter was born. After a very difficult birth, during which Sherri Saget and her baby almost died, a friend showed up to find Mr. Saget looking utterly destroyed, unshaven, unrecognizable, but holding his newborn.

“Oh my God, Bob, she’s beautiful,” the friend said.

“For a dollar, you can finger her,” Mr. Saget replied.

gbx (skowly), Monday, 27 March 2006 04:56 (twenty years ago)

Brain's Lessons is an instructional video from Warner Bros. Publications, which stars drummer Bryan "Brain" Mantia. Brain has worked with Limbomaniacs, Tom Waits, Primus, and recently Guns N' Roses, among others. His educational video is divided into four main sections. Also included is a 14-page booklet that contains written examples of all lesson material. Intrigued by the subtitle, I decided to dissect Brain's Lessons and see if there's anything worthwhile inside. Here's the result.

Lesson 1: Go-Go Beats
The video itself opens up with Brain jammin' on some Go-Go patterns that incorporate cookin' Conga fill-ins played with his left hand. The lesson itself consists of Brain demonstrating these Go-Go grooves. He begins with a basic pattern and builds up to more complicated (and funkier) grooves by adding more advanced right stick hi-hat and kick drum rhythms. Brain also gives us an example of his Conga drum fill-in technique, which should give you plenty of ideas to play around with.

Lesson 2: The Up-Down Technique
Here Brain explains the basic sticking technique that he uses. This consists of applying various levels for playing accented and unaccented notes. Included is a quick explanation of the Double Stroke Roll.

This section does not go into very much detail on technique and only serves as a simple starting point for the beginner. (Refer to my series of articles on Building Monster Chops in the sidebar on this page for a more thorough study of technique.)

Lesson 3: Funk Drumming
Brain opens this section with a sort of duet between Drum Set Funk Beats and burps. It's not a misprint, I said burps. Brain seems to have had a good time making this video. Whether the viewer will have as much fun, depends largely on the viewer.

This section gets better when it gets down to business, including demonstrations on how to get three different tones out of your Snare Drum and three ways to play your Hi-Hat. Also good is Brain's advice on how sometimes playing less (leaving some space for the other musicians) is better than overplaying.

Lesson 4: Ostinatos
For those of you unfamiliar with the term, an Ostinato is a pattern that is constantly repeated. This section of the video gives you Brain's take on the Ostinato. He uses 2 basic foot patterns for the Ostinato part, using basic Samba and Baiao beats, and adds various left stick Snare and right stick Cymbal parts to the mix.

This is great stuff for your 4-way coordination and should provide you with plenty of ideas for developing drum solos using Ostinato patterns.

Bottom Line: Is Brain Worth the Bucks?
I had mixed emotions about this video. If you've read any of my past reviews (see "Related Links on this Site" in the sidebar), you'll know I'm not much for the handheld camcorder-filmed look (ALA COPS), or blurry out of focus attempts at "creative" camera work, both of which you'll find throughout this video. I also wasn't fond of listening to Brain's explanations while he chomped on his steak dinner, ice cream, and banana. You may find these bits entertaining, I didn't. However, my bottom line for any review concerns cost versus educational value.

Does this Warner Bros. Publications video, which retails for $24.95, give you your money's worth? For the beginning drummer, my answer is yes. There's enough here to get the beginner thinking along some creative lines. I would also recommend it to the more advanced drummer who is new to Funk drumming and Ostinato patterns, and has an interest in playing Go-Go.

For those of you who do pick up Brain's Lessons, don't miss his solo at the very end of the video. He plays part of it with some very unique drumsticks. Now this is creative, funny, and entertaining – and the camera work actually stays still long enough for you to enjoy it!

Until next time: Stay loose!

I've never seen a defend the indefensible thread where there wasn't counteroffense.

Anyway, here's one case where I think the conventional wisdom is right -- he's the poor man's Springsteen and his Americana-ish lyrics are offensively bad. When he stays out of that territory he's inoffensive at best.

i had a bro who was engaged to a girl about to join the peace corps in burkina faso and be away for three years. i told him it was a bad idea, because first of all she was a little crazy and possessive (when he told her he'd gone to see a film with a friend who happened to be female, she almost ended it) and secondly she'd probably meet some hippie motherfucker named chad and that would be that.

i was wrong, though, she met some hippie motherfucker named todd and ended it.

Iworshipped Momus for years. I live in central Canada and he was my sophistacated Dandy . I spent hundreds of dollars on imports , rarities and mercahndise. I downloaded live tracks and rarites from Napster, gnutella and hot line. I burnt CDs and gave them to my friends like ad execs gave cocaine in the 80s. I plasterd my room with photos. I hitchiked to LA to go to concerts. Through his website he introduced me to Serge Gainsbourg and J Pop. I learnt more about Superflat . I wrote Art History papers that had him as a introductury quote nad an entry in the bibliography. Then I started to lurk on this board. Every post he wrote reminded us he was in Tokoyo He said things like "I have an apartment in New York and I don't go below 14th St". Now I am in the boonies and maybe i am just a rube. Is he being amusing and epigrammtic like Andy Warhol or is he just a twit. Now i know how difficult it is to lose childhood obsessions but i feel disinfranchised .

I call bullshit on that ten times over.

a) You're the kind of guy that, if that really did happen, would have rushed straight to ILX to start a "HAI GUYZ!!!" thread without even pausing to pull your pants up.
b) Explain "You didn't get laid" because of it. Whilst flinging your trousers off in the midst of passion your ID fell out of your wallet and hit her in the face? Whilst she lowered herself down onto you you happened to mention "By the way, I totally snarked on a popular indie band the other week, so I think I may just be able to maintain erection for over 45 seconds this time"? Or, you know, have you confused "Guaranteed sex" with "Woman speaking to you for long enough to know your surname?" Did this one knee you in the balls as well or...?
c) The idea of anything you write being read by women is quite improbable.

(S+C) x (B+F)/T = V is the formula that describes the "ideal female ass" in shape, bounce, firmness and symmetry, according to psychology lecturer David Holmes of Manchester Metropolitan University in England:
S is the overall shape or droopiness of the bottom, C represents how spherical the buttocks are, B measures muscular wobble or bounce, while F records the firmness. V is the hip to waist ratio, or symmetry of the bottom, and T measures the skin texture and presence of cellulite.

The flawless execution displayed by the musicians on Zappa's 'Joe's Garage' floored me when I first heard it. Sure, the lyrics are childish, but the sound of the album and the music contained within is highly impressive. Simply put, these guys knew how to play their instruments with a very high skill level. And though Zappa is hardly a vocalist in any way, the performances that Ike Willis turns in definitely make up for Zappa's inconsistencies. Yet Zappa's hapless vocal attempts will always sound like those of a polished professional when compared to the catterwauling of Mr Lydon.
I can only grin at this thread's attempt of comparison. The musicianship contained on 'Joe's Garage' demolishes the amateurism of PIL...but I LOVE MUSIC always prefers amateurism. So go ahead, slam the true pros and praise the pretenders.

Derek Borchardt, of Charlotte, N.C., Matthew Howard, of Longmont, Colo., and Aaron Jones, of Hillsboro, Ore., each pled guilty yesterday (Feb. 28) to one count of conspiracy to commit copyright infringement for their involvement in the prerelease music group "Apocalypse Crew" or "APC." George Hayes, of Danville, Va., pled guilty Feb. 13 to one count of criminal copyright infringement related to his involvement in another prerelease music group called "Chromance" or "CHR."

Each of the four defendants face up to five years of imprisonment, a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release.

As leading members of the prerelease music groups, the defendants sought to acquire digital copies of songs and albums before their commercial release in the U.S. The supply of prerelease music often was provided by music industry insiders -- such as radio DJs, employees of music magazine publishers, workers at CD-manufacturing plants and retailers who frequently receive advance copies of music.

Once a group prepared a stolen work for distribution, the material was distributed in minutes to secure computer servers throughout the world. From there, within a matter of hours, the pirated works are distributed globally, filtering down to peer-to-peer and other public file-sharing networks accessible to anyone with Internet access and potentially appearing for sale throughout the world.

lies. never said that. i've played every final fantasy, and three of them to completion.

final fantasy x is entirely, wholly gay, from start to finish. the female characters were so weak that they had to make an all-girl sequel. you can tell that gays are pulling the strings when none of the characters have beards. also, a lot of father-son conflicts.

final fantasy vii is absolutely, supremely gay. cloud is a tortured homo, hiding his true feelings by pretending to be conflicted between tifa and aeris. then aeris dies and he can spend the rest of his life "never getting over her" when really, he's having a hard time actually killing his tortured homo crush. the final scenes of final fantasy vii could've been taken from a mishima novel.

the least gay final fantasy is final fantasy vi. also, the most enjoyable.

When pressed to explain his theory, he said that all of the kids at the concert were packing some serious heft. The theory was not that overweight people are attracted to to Tool, but that Tool makes people overweight. After all, what else are you going to do while listening to an 80 minute long album besides make yourself a couple of banana and peanut butter sandwiches and some strawberry Quik?
