I know of Quizlist but am after a personal recommendation for a good weeknight pub quiz to do with some mates afterf tiring of current regular haunt. Specification:

- Allow teams of between 4 and 6
- Cash prizes
- General knowledge rarher than specialist
- Decent pub
- Somewhere in Zone 1 or 2, preferably N London.

up until the last one, the Village fits yr bill perfectly.

chris (chris), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:19 (twenty-two years ago)

the swimmer, holloway road?

gareth (gareth), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:20 (twenty-two years ago)

When I say Cash, I mean not just the jackpot, but the rounds too - doesn't the swimmer have beer prizes and cash jackpot?

Dave B (daveb), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:40 (twenty-two years ago)

the swimmer allows teams of exorbitant sizes though!!!

ken c (ken c), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, but the layout of the Swimmer makes that a bit tricky.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Monday, 12 January 2004 11:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the Swimmer quiz is rubbish but i like going there

stevem (blueski), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:30 (twenty-two years ago)

what Stevme said.

Swimmer quiz is rub coz:

there is one big stonking long 40 question megaround

no pictures or music

questionmaster marks the quiz himself rather than inter-team swopsies

MarkH (MarkH), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:33 (twenty-two years ago)

there were pictures at the last swimmer quiz we went to, and there were two rounds???

and there were swapsies.

were you even at the same quiz? etc etc

chris (chris), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't recall swapsies

stevem (blueski), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I just heard of an exciting quiz at the Bath Arms - Quizgo, where each correct answer is a number on your card, and it turns into a kind of Blockbuster run at the end... must try.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Dave B the One Tun (Goodge St) quiz might be alright, Gareth has been and said it was okay i think - it's Tuesdays

stevem (blueski), Monday, 12 January 2004 14:48 (twenty-two years ago)

we were doing quiz-go (or some variation thereof) in cheltenham about 10 years ago. it is rubbish because it's too random, if the numbers that come up aren't on your card it doesn't matter how many you get right, and inevitably, some table of thickies gets lucky and gets the 5 peasiest questions in a line...

...bitter, me?

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 12 January 2004 16:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I like a game with an element of chance, myself. (Not in any way because I am RUBBISH, of course.)

Archel (Archel), Monday, 12 January 2004 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

steve you shouldn't be bitter about winning...

oh wait i see what you mean now.

ken c (ken c), Monday, 12 January 2004 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

More quiz triv - found that there's a quiz league in London. Team Ilx anyone?

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm up for the cup.

Pete (Pete), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:22 (twenty-two years ago)

me too

Dave B (daveb), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

The village, Walthamstow: http://www.fancyapint.com/thepubs/pub1979.htm

Vicky (Vicky), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:24 (twenty-two years ago)

At the pre-christmas FAP we came within a whisper of winning £250 on the jackpot round. Given that we stayed up until God knows when anyway, the extra cash for booze might have killed us.

Anna (Anna), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm well up for that

chris (chris), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 13:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm not sure if there is a bus that will take me from the top end of Tottenham (near the football ground) to Walthamstow. If there is, I'm up for it. Or if it's somewhere else convenientish for me.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 19:34 (twenty-two years ago)

yes there is a bus Martin, i'll probably be using it myself if i attend, which i will

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 19:39 (twenty-two years ago)

i am mooting a One Tun Quiz Fap next Tuesday - anyone interested? the Village quiz is on Wednesdays correct?

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Any idea which bus, Steve? Is the One Tun the one on Goodge St? If so, I might well be up for that.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 22:23 (twenty-two years ago)

the 123 will take you to forest road, but there's a W something that goes to central

chris (chris), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 09:20 (twenty-two years ago)

i could do a quiz next tuesday. although i'm not necessarily very good at them. i could come for moral support.

colette (a2lette), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 15:18 (twenty-two years ago)
