hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:42 (twenty-two years ago)

New Beastie Boys album. Six tracks in, still not impressed. Fantastic bass for the car though.

Ask For Samantha (thatgirl), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Alter Ego-Rocker (Black Strobe Mix)-very odd, spacey and almost cinematic in a Moroder sort of way. Actually Legowelt may be the best reference point.

Aloud-Sex and Sun (Romain Tranchart Mix)-Cheesy and discoey with guitars, like Daft Punk but a bit more ZZ-Top, then it goes kind of sentimental (frenchimental?) at the end.

And a mix I made myself on Mixmeister, which is mixed and I may yet find a host for here.

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 15 June 2004 19:47 (twenty-two years ago)

New Junior Boys album, which just arrived in the mail about an hour ago. Supreme lushness (as has been noted elsewhere, and often).

Mix CDs from my friend Ladonna, featuring lots of strangeness (from Smog to Elf Power to filthy Star Wars Gangsta Rap), on my new CD/radio/MP3 on disk player that replaces the (lack of) sound card on my work computer. :-)

Cool... Email me & I'll send you a link to what little I have available digitally. (Unfortunately the bulk of my recordings are from the days of yore and involve tape that hasn't been converted to digital yet.)

I've been meaning to give T. Raumschmiere another shot. The first time I listened to his stuff I thought it sounded a bit too trailer-trashy for my tastes, but then a week or so ago I was listening to some audio channel and found that, to my surprise, I was actually really enjoying one of his songs! I guess they're great for when you're in a sleazy fun-type music type mood.

Been playing what's labeled as "the 2001 Source Label Sampler!" recently and realizing I missed out on a whole lot by not playing this sooner (purchased it second-hand in 2002). The Simian and Phoenix tracks are especially delightful! Should check out more of the aforementioned. Oh, and I'm still hugely enamored of the Franz Ferdinand CD.

Also I listened tonight, quite a bit, to the voice of movie director Nikita Mihhalkov - reading the comments in his documentary, or "portrait film", Anna ot 6 do 16 ("Anna from 6 to 16 years old") - and to the music of Eduard Artemyev used in the same film.

...Mihhalkov could use a separate thread, I feel. I did a search, there was no thread on him ...maybe he's been talked about on other threads that deal with (Russian) cinema?
