Social Specialization

Many of us 'specialize', to some extent, in our working lives. Do we also do so in our social lives? Most of us would presume ourselves generalists, but are we better in some roles than others? Are we called upon to play certain roles more than others? Are these two roles the same? Is it important to be aware of such things? Should one seek to emphasize what they are good at or what they enjoy, or to deemphasize one or both?
