So what do we think of Velvet Revolver?

In my opinion, they bring the muthafuckin ROCK! The songs are fresh, heavy, loud, violent -- everyhting rock is meant to be. Some of Weiland's best vocal work ever. Slash continues to rule. It's a great kick in the ass to today's bland rock scene (much like appetite was back in the day). Glad to see these guys doing so well.

For some reason I feel like I'm in the minority here. So let me have it.

Peace

I also am surprised by how good this band's singles are (haven;t heard the whole record yet). Proves that drugs don't sap talent; they just sap the people and their output.

Chris O'Connor (Chris O'Connor), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Weiland really needs to stop wearing those Iggy Raw Power pants. Also, that new, dreary single sounds like a Bad Company throwaway. I don't care how many Ramones, CBGB's and Sid Vicious t-shirts they wear in the video.

The Velvet Revolver Thread

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually, I skip over the three ballads on the album. the rest of the tracks are killer.

cw28 (cw28), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:39 (twenty-one years ago)

no pants on Weiland for Alex:

GAH! MY EYES!!!!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I also submit that gis is not a repreat thread. The last VR thread was in anticipation of VR. This thread is ok, they're here, have you heard them, what do you think?

cw28 (cw28), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I think they're poo.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Are people buying the album? Are they doing well? Strikes me as not, but I could be wrong.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Weiland's desire to be Hedwig doesn't mesh with the hard rock--not rock n roll--music and the band just sounds like it's reaching soo faaaar for grandeur. It's like their overcompensating for their past flailings.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

*they're* overcompensating .... (it's Friday, it's early)

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 10 September 2004 13:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Alex, the Velvet Revolver album debuted at the top the Billboard charts and currently resides at number 39. People are buying it.

Talent Explosion (Talent Explosion), Friday, 10 September 2004 15:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Debuts mean nothing. It's where it ends up that counts.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 September 2004 16:34 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah, it's not that hot.

Andrzej B. (Andrzej B.), Friday, 10 September 2004 17:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Debuts mean nothing. It's where it ends up that counts.

By March of 2005, it'll be as big a litterbug in used bins as the last two STP albums and The Spaghetti Incident.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Friday, 10 September 2004 17:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, I wish I could place bets on which albums will clog used bins. Someone should start issuing odds on this.

Talent Explosion (Talent Explosion), Friday, 10 September 2004 17:51 (twenty-one years ago)

the single is gawdawful dadrock. music for guys in khakis and tucked-in shirts to listen to while they fantasize about their crazy "high school days". Evidence: non-stop VH1/Rolling Stone gushing.

Shakey Mo Collier, Friday, 10 September 2004 18:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Shakey scarily OTM!

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Friday, 10 September 2004 18:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I've heard them, but I haven't heard them at the same time. You know what I'm saying, right?
I hear it but I don't listen.
Whoops. I gotta go.

I'm still trying to figure out if she will smell alone, when the dogs begin to smell her. Can somebody get back to me about this?!

They are common or garden college radio rock. Really, it's a a bit, well, 'blah'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 10 September 2004 22:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Just saw th video for "Fall to Pieces" again. Yawnsome. Tepid Bad Company balladry.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Saturday, 11 September 2004 06:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Things could improve if they took a fatal plane trip. I think even they would appreciate that.

Alex is so right about those fucken pants.

The Velvet Overlord (The Velvet Overlord), Saturday, 11 September 2004 09:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Velvet Revolver is a mistake; not only are they less than the sum of their parts, they're less than any individual band member taken alone. A GNR reunion of sorts is nice, but they're missing the one person that would make it work. That person is Izzy Stradlin; Velvet Revolver needs someone to write some actual songs for them.

My name is Kenny (My name is Kenny), Saturday, 11 September 2004 16:42 (twenty-one years ago)

All the advance word about the band said that Izzy was indeed writing the songs, but that all dried up once Weiland joined. HMMMMMMMM.

kit brash (kit brash), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:17 (twenty-one years ago)

they are the equivalent of macdonalds putting gen eng tofu on a quarter pounder.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 12 September 2004 07:21 (twenty-one years ago)

seven months pass...
Just saw Velvet Revolver in concert. Wow. They weren't very good. Weiland used a megaphone for what seemed like 90 percent of his vocals. The sound was too loud. Duff looked like he was trying, but the rest of the band seemed to just be going through the motions. The songs just seemed to lack spark. It probably didn't help that the venue cut off beer sales the very second that Velvet Revolver took the stage. Yikes. All in all, one of the lamest concerts I've ever had the misfortune to attend.

Mr Deeds (Mr Deeds), Sunday, 24 April 2005 17:37 (twenty-one years ago)

re: velvet revolver live -- four words: "with special guests Hoobastank"

btw, isn't it time to re-evaluate Bad Company? "Fall To Pieces" is VR's finest hour.

rogermexico (rogermexico), Sunday, 24 April 2005 18:49 (twenty-one years ago)

My hatred for Bad Company has been lovingly nurtured and spoon fed like a doting mother hen by recent exposure to hateful classic rock radio where its fed like soma to the zombie masses who've clearly otherwise given up on introducing foreign stimuli to their withering brains.

"Fall To Pieces" is simply awful.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Monday, 25 April 2005 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder where you get Iggy pants like that. "Heavy fabric guaranteed, made to fit for you and me!"

haitch (haitch), Monday, 25 April 2005 13:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahahahaha! I had a next-door neighbor in college that would blast "Feel Like Makin' Love" (and of course, scream along) no less than twice a day. I'm not sure he knew any other songs existed.

Also yes, "Fall to Pieces" is damn terrible, especially given STP and GNR's more-or-less fine singles history.

Vinnie (vprabhu), Monday, 25 April 2005 14:11 (twenty-one years ago)

But you know, this one time I karaoke'd "Feel Like Makin' Love" at the Brass Monkey in LA and damn if it wasn't like some kind of ladynip. Unscientific sample, but still...

rogermexico (rogermexico), Monday, 25 April 2005 20:30 (twenty-one years ago)

Big article on Velvet Revolver in the Star Trib this weekend. The buzz is building. Watch out!

Repeat: "with special guest Hoobastank"

rogermexico (rogermexico), Monday, 25 April 2005 21:14 (twenty-one years ago)

thirteen years pass...

I've checked out all of Slash's various post GNR albums online and one of the weirder things about the two Velvet Underground records is how much soft 70s sounding pop rock is on them.

earlnash, Saturday, 2 June 2018 17:02 (eight years ago)

there's what on them?

niels, Saturday, 2 June 2018 17:48 (eight years ago)
