Pashmina (Pashmina), Saturday, 4 June 2005 13:41 (twenty-one years ago)

whoa

im listening to tori amos covering "london girls" right now and happened upon this thread.

fullman (drystereo), Saturday, 4 June 2005 13:44 (twenty-one years ago)

God, what are the chances, eh? And I dont mean that in a semi-sarcastic way, I seriously mean "What are the chances of someone making a Chas and Dave topic".

Don Rowlando (Sam Rowlands), Saturday, 4 June 2005 13:59 (twenty-one years ago)

(You've got) More rabbit than Sainsburys Being Septic. I never even heard them, but this phrase was once used to great effect on a Status Quo thread. Dadaismus to Stewart, I believe.

k/l (Ken L), Saturday, 4 June 2005 14:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Repunctuate. Put the period before "Being" and replace with a comma after "Septic."

k/l (Ken L), Saturday, 4 June 2005 14:13 (twenty-one years ago)

It's clearly rabbit.

KeefW (kmw), Saturday, 4 June 2005 14:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Billy Dods (Billy Dods), Saturday, 4 June 2005 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

"bollocks"

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 4 June 2005 15:14 (twenty-one years ago)

First gig you ever saw? Nice! A good old fashioned knees-up, round the ol' Joanna.

KeefW (kmw), Saturday, 4 June 2005 15:34 (twenty-one years ago)

or rather several hundred sweaty blackpudlians yelling "rabbit!" and "bollocks!" and so on. i must have been five or six ... my dad later admitted that taking me had been a huge, huge error of judgement.

still, who knows what effect it had on my nascent musical values? it might even go some way to explaining my tourette's colourful language.

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Saturday, 4 June 2005 15:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Snooker Loopy!

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Saturday, 4 June 2005 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

yip, Saturday, 4 June 2005 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Two words. "Tottenham" and "Twats".

Si.C@rter (SiC@rter), Saturday, 4 June 2005 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

You guys are the twats. It's either "Chas'n'Dave" or "Chas&Dave". Never "Chas and Dave".

everything, Sunday, 5 June 2005 00:16 (twenty-one years ago)

The Dave/Eminem connection!

robertw, Sunday, 5 June 2005 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

As I mentioned upthread the following thread features some discussion of Chas and Dave: So, I guess the Kids in the UK like Status Quo??

k/l (Ken L), Sunday, 5 June 2005 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

You're Never Too Old to Rock 'n' Roll

Joblot, Sunday, 5 June 2005 07:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The words would be 'inexplicably hip' I suppose everything comes around, but were they ever hip in the first place, even at the height of pub rock? Blame the Libertines.

Soukesian, Sunday, 5 June 2005 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Chas Channning

chad channing?

grimly fiendish (grimlord), Sunday, 5 June 2005 09:40 (twenty-one years ago)

'incessant talking'

moley, Sunday, 5 June 2005 09:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahaha, I am glad KeefW is on this thread as I automatically thought "rabbit" which reminded me of him (and others) singing it in the foyer of the Mitchell Theatre in Glasgow at a Gentle Waves gig many many moons ago.

One of my pals has his picture on a flyer for a Chas'n'Dave gig. There are a lot of things in the world more shit than Chas'n'Dave.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 5 June 2005 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

That I really don't know who the fuck are they.

zeus, Sunday, 5 June 2005 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ailsa... Really? This was at Bowlie as I remember... Andy Symington did mix of Funk Soul Brother and Rabbit for us... Chrys picked up a copy of Chas 'n' Dave's greatest hits at Rye. We all missed the mix though.

Zeus - it's probably not that surprising. They're not very well known beyond the sound of Bow bells.

Interestingly, according to Wikipedia, "A study was done by the city in 2000 to see how far the Bow Bells could be heard, and it was estimated that the bells would have been heard 6 miles to the east, 5 miles to the north, 3 miles to the south, and 4 miles to the west."

KeefW (kmw), Sunday, 5 June 2005 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

No, I definitely remember you and Chr1s and M1ck C00k3 doing "Rabbit". A quick S*n*st*er search for Chas and Dave brings up a post from the boy 96 which would seem to confirm this. This was pre-Bowlie, just.

I think that was the first time I'd met you, and I was a bit wary of interweb mentalists, and this just confirmed my suspicion that these people would be, well, mentalist.

ailsa (ailsa), Sunday, 5 June 2005 13:54 (twenty-one years ago)

It is possible, Ailsa. I can't really remember. I do it all the time.

KeefW (kmw), Sunday, 5 June 2005 15:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Charles and Eddie.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 5 June 2005 16:09 (twenty-one years ago)

You're right, it really is Chas n' Dave isn't it. I cant apologise enough.

Don Rowlando (Sam Rowlands), Sunday, 5 June 2005 17:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, it's true. I feel so ashamed. I didn't even type it; I just thought it.

KeefW (kmw), Sunday, 5 June 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

spotted last year, a flyer pronouncing:

"Thursday - Chas & Dave (not the original Dave)"

Vicky (Vicky), Sunday, 5 June 2005 21:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha!

KeefW (kmw), Sunday, 5 June 2005 21:29 (twenty-one years ago)

anyone recomend seeing them live?

titchyschneider (titchyschneider), Sunday, 5 June 2005 21:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, someone told me last year when they played across the road from me that things can get a little rough at their gigs...

Struck me as highly unlikely for a good time rockney knees-up mother Brown band playing a small church hall in Edinburgh.

KeefW (kmw), Sunday, 5 June 2005 22:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Did they do the theme tune for Bangers & Mash?

Sasha (sgh), Monday, 6 June 2005 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

'O' darlin, there just aint no pleasin' you'

stelfox, Monday, 6 June 2005 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Didn't I do a thread on this topic just a couple of weeks ago? And, if so, why can't I find it on "Search"?

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

geeeewwwwwwwwwrrrtcha!

zebedee (zebedee), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Marcello's thread:

Reasons why Chas and Dave are great

NickB (NickB), Monday, 6 June 2005 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I remember now; they did them theme tune to "Only Fools and Horses". That should make everything a lot clearly.. providing you're familiar with that classic show, of course.
