Reading the butthole surfers thread, noodle posted a world of spectrum link. whilst i was there i thought i'd see if they had a copy of the text adventure that 3 of us wrote in our summer holidays.

lots of articles i hadn't seen before. lots of good reviews. lots of my embarrassing graphics... (it also seems to have been picked up by a publisher which i don't remember. think i may have been stiffed there...).

anyway, have you written any games?

Dude! Nice work! I think we need a World of Spectrum thread, but I can't be arsed today.

i made two board games, one in fourth grade (Oriopoly, an educational board game about orioles), and one during my senior year in college for a student-led class on postmodernism that was such garbage. (the class, not the board game).

koogs you co-wrote Jekyll and Hyde on the Speccy? oh man I bow down to you!

I wrote tons of crappy Basic stuff back in the day, and only started learning machine code on the spectrum in its dieing days. so that was that.

i have a couple of other personal sna files of stuff i wrote. an asteroids game (didn't everyone) and a couple of v poor Quill'd text adventures.

i recently unearthed a load of cassettes of old stuff i'd written but they have degraded so poorly that the sound isn't consistent enough to load into my mac emulator.... HANG ON! i should try it on my realactual spectrum of course!

hem hem Why do people like driving/snowboarding/ect games

But respect due to you too Alan. I'm glad somebody was putting their Speccy to good use while I was pishing the early 80s away trying to get dodgy C90s full of games to load.

alan's looks good. am tempted to type it in. actually, no i'm not - i remember the PITA that was.

Jekyll was written using PAW, an adventure writing thing that did all the hard work (i did the pictures and the Pontoon game and all the tape duplication, not much of the text). we did one the year before using GAC which was more primitive but also well reviewed (because it was one of the first) and also a thing called GACPAC that let you delete unused words and use your own fonts and stuff, things the GAC writers left out. i think we sold more of those than the actual game (was v handy source of income in university years). we also made it into the Guardian's tech section. which was nice. the other two went on to write Microprose Golf and Subwar 2050 and i got a 'proper' job.

i also have z80 (spectrum) and, later, 68000 (atari st) versions of Jungler (http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?game_id=8259) kicking around that nobody but me ever saw. and java phone version of ant attack that i never finished. http://www.koogy.clara.co.uk/antchester.png

then there's http://www.koogy.clara.co.uk/tailgate which is a work in progress...

i meant sna of course

I wrote a really cheap ass text game implementing only the binary function called Harry Potter II: Revenge of Dobby. He asks you for a sock and if you say yes he becomes free and you lose. So the game is typing the word "no" over and over. I made a version in an .xls file so more people could play it, which I'd upload but it's not on this compy. You get the idea, I'm sure.

kind of reminds me of the text adventure "Pick up the phone booth and die"

PlayfulPuppy to thread! I'd be curious if anyone here ever saw/played his game "Peanut Patrol".
